OC APPLICATION

O R I G I N A L C H A R A C T E R A P P L I C A T I O N

Thinking of applying as an Original Character or a Canon Original Character? This is the application page to visit. As with other applications, we want to make sure you read the rules, as well as the taken character list if you're applying as a Canon OC to make sure the character you are applying for has not been taken already. You also might want to check out holds just to make sure.

Please make sure that you read over the FAQ and the HP canon guide to clear anything up, and if you feel like something has not been mentioned, post a comment and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If having difficulty with your application, we recommend you give the Application Guide a look over as well.

Wondering what the guidelines are for Original Characters? Not sure if your character counts as Canon OC or what that even is? In addition to the normal application rules, you're expected to follow the guidelines we have listed below:

O R I G I N A L C H A R A C T E R R U L E S;

Canon OC rules:

1. No Fandom OC's. What is a Fandom OC? A Fandom OC is, for example, an X-Men character you created for that world and you want to bring them here. Not allowed, unfortunately.
2. Has to be a legitimate character. What does this mean? A random passerby character with no lines does not count.
3. In the personality section please make sure to let us know how you came to some of your own choices on the personality. This means naming canon examples.
4. If you're unsure whether your character qualifies as a Canon OC or not, make sure to ASK A MODERATOR before submitting your application.

OC Rules in General:

1. The same rules that we have for regular applications still apply. So check with us first about half Veela, Animagus, Vampire or Werewolf things.
2. Your character is not a descendant or related to ANY canon Harry Potter character. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. Please be thorough with your personality section. We want a very solid idea of this. Since we don't have another place to look up their correct personality, the last thing we want is a character who is vague enough for this to change at a whim.
4. Applications with sparkly characters who are flawless orphans who are perfect at every subject and can do no wrong and everyone falls in love with them at every moment will be rejected.

Examples of Canon OC's:
- Fionna/Prince Gumball/Marshall Lee & canon genderswapped characters (Adventure Time)
- Matt (Death Note)
- Obscure Disney Prince/Characters (i.e: Prince from Cinderella/Snow White or the Feather Duster from Beauty & the Beast)
- Nyotalia (Hetalia)
- Ancestors (Homestuck)
- Foxface (Hunger Games)
- Ditzy Doo (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
- Femio (Princess Tutu)
- Silent Protagonists (video games)

T H I N G S T O T A K E N O T E O F;

1. The mods have the jurisdiction to approve or deny any application submitted.

2. Post your application with your personal journal on the application page itself instead of linking it! If you don't have a personal journal, that's okay, but we strongly prefer it for keeping track of people. Remember to PUT THE TYPE OF APPLICATION IN THE HEADER so we know whether this is a OC or a Canon OC.

3. Your application will need to include two specific words; these words can be found hidden in the rules and information pages linked in the community profile.

4. You may only apply for ONE character at a time. Once that character is approved than you may choose another. A player is not allowed more than one un-responded to application on the application forum. For all new players to the RP, we ask you wait one week before applying as a new character, this will give you time to settle in to the community.

5. If the character's canon is ongoing and it's still early in their introduction, rather than applying them as a canon OC, we will advise you to postpone your application until you can get more information on them.

6. KEEP IN MIND. This is Hogwarts, and it's a British school. There shouldn't be a huge flood of "DESU DESU DESU" at any point in time. Thus, your characters should be British, or at the very least European. If they aren't, you MUST have a GOOD reason for it! The UK is very diverse and has many nationalities, so if you want them to be a different ethnicity, they can still be British! Here are some locations where characters reside.

7. When applying for a Hetalia Character, we request that you phrase the Canon history in the context of the comic, as opposed to the actual history of the country. This is so we can see how the history translates in to the anthropomorphic character.

8. PLEASE KEEP OOC CONVERSATION OUT OF THE APP POST! At least keep it to a minimum if you are going to say something such as 'huzzah for [fill in character name here]', get their AIM and tell them in person. I am sure they would rather hear it that way.

9. We don't have App Cycles at this rp. If applying for a:
Student: The most important thing to remember for students is that they are students who go to school. Be prepared to observe all student rules, meaning there are IC consequences for fighting, sneaking out after curfew, and pranks. That doesn't mean not to have fun, just know your character can get in trouble for it! There are also classes with homework, but signing up and doing school work is optional. More info on student rules are here and these spots will always be open.

Teacher/TA: Keep in mind what characters are suitable to teach, and pick a subject that makes sense for them (and for Hogwarts if it's a non- canon class). There is a maximum of two teachers and two TAs on any given subject and occupied teacher and TA spots can be seen there. Teacher characters should do Homework often, which can be posted here. Teachers are encouraged to give out detentions, house points, and overall, remember that they're teachers. More info on teacher rules are here. Currently: OPEN TO CANON CLASSES

Staff Member: Similar to professors, minus the assignments, they have a degree of authority as well, but not as much as teachers. They focus on working in the hospital wing, library, grounds, etc. Just like professors, they shouldn't entirely neglect their jobs for social interaction and will use the same application form as teachers. Occupied staff positions can be seen here. Currently: OPEN TO CANON POSITIONS

10. If your application is:
Accepted: Congratulations! Follow the instructions, add yourself to all the lists, and welcome to Sorting Hat!

Wavered: We think your application could use a few improvements to be up to the quality of our roleplay. You have a week to adjust these issues before the character is up for grabs again. If you reapply and we still don't find it up to par, you will be rejected.

Rejected: There are significant problems with the application, so you must wait one week before reapplying or reserving that character (unless you already have a hold on that character, but you can't renew it if the hold expires). However, if you want to apply a different character, you can do so whenever.

Character Information
Name: Madeline Bonnefoy
School Year: Fifth Year
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Out of school living location: La Turbie, France
Blood status: Halfblood

Personality:

Madeline doesn't tend to make a big first impression. Quiet around strangers, kind, thoughtful, but ultimately forgettable. She has 'that quiet girl' written all over her and she does not mind giving others that idea. Madeline would rather be vaguely remembered in a good way than vividly recalled in a bad one. When you meet again though, she will remember you. Years of being overlooked made her sensitive to such things and she will recall the names, faces, and often the birthdays of nearly all her acquaintances.

With those people she is more fond of, she is more open. A little sarcastic, fiercely proud, but hesitant to be overly rude. Even her insults are half-hearted and often fly over others heads. She may smile sweetly and then give you an underhanded compliment on your clothes. No one expects it from her and they often think she misspoke.

Ladies are not rude and they do not raise their voice." Of course she only half learned that lesson as she is often loud during hockey games or exciting television shows. She is quite certain her mother never approved of her playing cricket or quidditch, even if she grew up with the sports. But then her mother was never quite as lady-like as the ideal she taught and Madeline has long since stopped striving to be perfect for her. It never gained her any attention before and now that she is her own, the lessons only stick on the base level.

To be honest, her father's quiet lessons when she was a small child stick with her more. It's the reason she defaults to writing in French, as it was her father who taught her to write, and it is why she will go him for advice if she needs it. He will always be there for Madeline, even if he does things she does not approve and Madeline loves her for it.

Madeline loathes to be embarrassed. She can't stand being fawned over in public by her father, especially when he sets out to embarrass her with little stories. Any accidental embarrassment, from tripping and falling to getting something on her shirt, is horrifying and she detests pranks, especially those designed to humiliate. It started with an innocent little ink on the shirt that got her a lecture on cleanliness from her mother. That escalated when she was laughed at by a friend when she tripped in the mud . The idea of humiliation makes her cringe and she would never make a fool of herself or anyone else. Her empathetic nature has always made her refuse to go along with any new ideas when they involve such humiliation. If she hates it, then surely someone else will and it's rude to humiliate someone in the first place.

Canon Background:

Since this is merely an AU where Canada was female, Canada's basic history never changed. The difference came in how she perceived it and how she personally related to the major players in her time as a nation. Like the male Canada, she was a loner nation for much of her early life. Her only interactions were with the nations who controlled her and they were often in and out of her life in brief flashes. She barely remembers her time with the Dutch and her self-awareness began with France. The woman was her mentor for a long time, the kind but stern mistress of her life. As with many colonies, her relationship with her governing nation was at times strained, but France always held a special place to her. The woman taught to read and write and was a heavy influence for nearly 200 years.

When she was given to England after the Seven Year's War in 1763, her irrational hopes that France would keep her safe forever fell to pieces. What time would do to her relationship with England was done in mere moments with France and although she has reconciled with France in recent years, things were never the same after that time. She often felt betrayed but being closer to England made her closer to America, her neighbor the South. The younger colony seemed to grow as much in less than a hundred years as she herself as grown in two hundred and it was not until another few hundred later that Canada felt them to be equals in age, physically.

The forced closeness with America grew to true fondness, but Canada was not the rebellious sort. When America and her passionate speeches turned into real action and real revolution, Canada shied away. Part of her supported and admired America's bold actions, but she remained unconvinced and pushed America back to her own land time and time again. When America, full of newly won freedom turned north once more, Canada fought back with England, pressing America back into her own land time and time again, trying to talk America out of it and then using force when necessary. She was left with a scar on her heart and in her mind. Canada had trusted America and it had proved to be an awful mistake, even if America's attempts to steal her from British rule had failed. For a long time, she fretted over this, building up defenses against the potential invasion of America. For her, there was times of peace, to grow and prosper and watch the rest of the world with a detached eye and America with a wary one.

Of course, peace with the rest of the world was one thing and peace within her own self was another. For like across the ocean, British and French clashed within her. Her people had many arguments and battles over the ideas America had brought, a democratic government that was "responsible" to the colonists and not the British monarchy or legislature. She had headaches time and time again as the rebellions lifted and were squashed. She agreed with them in principle, that her colonists should have a government closer to home, but she knew she could not win against England at this time. Life progressed with constant bumps in the road, but in 1867, she was given control of her own affairs with the Confederation and became known as the Dominion of Canada. However, Britain still kept control over her external affairs and as Canada was still uncertain about dealing with America, and the disputes between where their borders lay, she was content with this. Her lands expanded over time and despite the bumps and bruises she gained with every new province and territory, her size and power grew. However it was with an empty stomach and constant headaches that she met the World Wars.

While the Wars gave her jobs, technology, and a better sense of the world outside her own set of land, she detested them. One out of every ten soldiers she sent overseas died in the first World War. Her inability to dictate her own foreign policy then grated on her nerves and the soldiers who died for her and Britain haunt her. It was with great reluctance that she watched her soldier be sent overseas yet again almost three decades later, even if this had been her own people's choice. While she had been working as a nurse in the army during the war, when the supply of volunteers began to run dry, she bundled up her hair and bandaged down her chest. The war was draining and with every death, she had a harder time seeing why she was even there and cursing the Europeans for starting these stupid wars. However, despite her reluctance, she came out of the wars a stronger nation.

Since the inventions of mobile phones and the growth of the internet, Canada has made far more friends, both humans and nations, and likes to keep in touch with them more often.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
Pooting
Madeline is the product of a whirlwind romance. Her British mother, a witch from a long line of witches, fell for a smooth talking French wizard and much to her mother's suprise, she found herself pregnant. She didn't tell Madeline's father and attempted to raise Madeline on her own, but between work at the Ministry and trying to keep her magic under wraps in the tightknit village, she hardly had time to keep an eye on her daughter.

It was when Madeline turned four that her father came back into the picture. She's never gotten a clear answer as to how this happened, but her father fought for custody of Madeline and wisked her back to France. The little town of La Turbie was strange to her, but she picked up French as easily as she had picked up English. She spent her time there happily attending the school her muggle grandmere taught at and showing almost none of the classic signs of magic. It came as a surprise to her when she got her letter in the mail. Unbeknownst to her, her father had struck the deal that if Madeline was to become a witch, she would attend Hogwarts, and she would stay with her mother for Christmas, in exchange for custody. Of course, she'd been going to her mother's for Christmas every year, but it hadn't occured to her that it was part of a deal.

She got ready for Hogwarts with a pit in her stomach and nervously got on the train, waving her mother and father goodbye. The world she found at the other end was like nothing she had known and she found herself caught up in the classes.

She took to Arithmancy and Herbology right away, with Potions a close favorite subject. She loathed Divinations and her flat one word answers in the classroom made it very clear. She was never impolite to her teacher, but she obviously found the entire subject too vague and open to interpretation. Shy and a little lacking in confidence, it's taken much of her five years to make a few solid friends and she still swears most people don't know she exists.
Dragon
How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor:

Madeline can be brave if the occasion calls for it and she would always stand up for a friend, but she still tends to be rather quiet about it. She'll be polite to a point with those who torment or tease others, but push things too far and nothing in the world will stop her scolding.

Hufflepuff:

Madeline values all the core tenets of this house for she is unfalteringly loyal to her friends, even in their worse moments, and believes in the tolerance of all creeds. She definitely puts her all into her work, believing a job done without every ounce of effort is not really done at all.

Ravenclaw:

Madeline is very intelligent and definitely tends to be one of those girls holed up in the library at school and with her nose in a book at home. She may not speak up to ask a question in class, but she would certainly go ask the professor after. She loves learning new things and being able to put them to good use and her favorite subjects tend to be ones with clear answers.

Slytherin:

Madeline certainly is resourceful though she lacks ambition, preferring to let the brighter and louder take the attention.

Journal Post:

I shall be disappearing for much of the next week, as OWLS approach, so I thought I would let the more easily worried of you know. The library or the Common room is the best place to find me, but I might not be in the best of moods. I apologize in advance if I'm curt.

I'll be in the common room if you've need of me the night of the dance. I know it's quite important to some of you, but I really need to be packing that night. The trains from London to Nice have baggage limits and it'll take all my spells to make this trunk fit their specifications. Papa just had to send me a new one for Christmas.

Character Information
Name: Artollo Apemis [The Psiioniic]
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Dueling. In canon, Psiioniic was said to be the most powerful psionic mage in all of Alternia, pulled from slavery. It can only be deduced that his powers were often relied upon to keep the group safe. That was probably something he was more than eager to due as he accepted his freedom, using his powers in the way he wanted, which was defending his friends. It would be his way of proving that even a so called 'low'blood was worth something.

In HPverse, Artollo holds the same kind of view, even if this universe means it's for slightly different reasons. Growing up as a halfblood and one interested in muggle technology, he knew there would be people who would pull into question just how proficient he was with magic just because of his ancestry. Becoming good at dueling was just one way to prove that. Besides, being an avid reader, he knew that while peace was all well and great, but history showed that people of all sorts simply brought about conflict. He'll advocate getting along and singing flowers, sure, but he knows that knowing how to really use a wand will save yourself and those you care about in the end. Over the years, he's only become better with his wandwork and has even won a few dueling competitions.
Suitability: Well you hired Bro Strider.
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Out of school living location: On the outskirts of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England. (Has a room in Sal and Di's home.) However, he can be more often than not found traveling in various places on Earth to sate his curiosity.
Blood status: Half-blood

Personality: Unfortunately, the Psiioniic is just one of many characters in the Homestuck comic which has not gotten very much screentime. Only a very brief part of his life was told, and it was only in passing by another character. What we do know for certain is that he no doubt shares a great many similarities with his descendent Sollux Captor. We know this from two sources. The canon itself states that there is supposed to be a deep connection between a troll’s ancestor and themselves. Andrew Hussie has also answered questions pertaining to the ancestors as stating that they are the troll kids except more adult. This means we are looking at a Sollux Captor based individual, only with some personality changes due to a different time period and life experiences which have happened solely to him.

Due to his bifuricated mind, the Psiioniic probably has mood swings similar to those of Sollux. It is quite possible that while during his travels with Signless, they were able to help calm down the severity of them as best they could. By now, it’s a bit more normal than not for him to be of a quick witted humor and somewhat smug. This doesn’t override his sense of caution, however. As an adult troll having grown up in Alternia and one that is lowblooded to boot, the Psiioniic has had to become very careful and even slightly paranoid when it comes to other trolls. He is not quite the idealist that Signless is and won’t believe in the kindness of people so readily on a normal day. This doesn’t mean he’ll treat everyone like Mad Eye Moody from the Harry Potter series; the Psiioniic believes in constant vigilance, yes, but not CONSTANT! VIGILANCE! For one thing, that’s a suspicious way to behave and a dead giveaway. For another, Signless tends to not like it when he’s openly hostile.

That is his high moment. His lows tend to be very much not attractive.

During the moments he swings into that area, the Psiioniic hits a period of intense self loathing. On its own, it is a horrible thing. However, the Psiioniic has had to grow up to adulthood with an entire empire constantly pressing down its own message onto his head: “LOWBLOODS ARE WEAK, PATHETIC, AND USELESS BESIDES THE FUNCTION OF A BIOLOGICAL BATTERY FOR SHIPS.” Trolls are very resilient in both body and mind. However, social brainwashing is social brainwashing, and for many years of his life, the Psiioniic no doubt has gained a very low idea of his self worth that I doubt even Signless has managed to fix completely. When he’s in his low swings, he is easy to manipulate if one knows how to fix on that area. When in his high swings, he’s probably still very sensitive to that part of himself and prone to lashing out.

One last thing that should be mentioned is the Psiioniic’s high intelligence. Like his descendent, he is extremely clever and understands logical concepts (particularly mathematics) very easily. In fact, these things even tend to bore him at times with how ‘simple’ it seems and a part of him longs for a challenge. He’d say ‘like maybe running a ship’, except that brings to mind the Helmsman system, which is the opposite of what a free thinking troll wants.

How did you hear about us?: I'm in the games!!!

Character Information
Name: Chiara Maria Lovina Giordano [Italy Romana]
Canon Origin/Series: Axis Powers Hetalia; Nyotalia
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Herbology. While she's quite skilled at hexes and jinxes she's always been more talented in the more wandless forms of magic. She's also an excellent gardener. The sterotype of an Italian woman is a homemaker, excelling at cooking and gardening amongst other things. And as a Hetalia character, Romana fits the stereotype.
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Out of school living location: Naples, Italy
Blood status: Pureblood.

Personality:

A nation of romance, passion and most importantly, pasta with plenty of tomatoes, Romana is many things. Stubborn, hard to impress as well as being a woman to hold grudges, she is also motherly, strong and proud, of not only herself or her family, but of her people. She’s a woman who will never give up on someone she cares about, and despite being often temperamental at times, she can also be rather sweet and affectionate when it suits her. She is also a woman who is not as confident as she may seem, yet at the same time is completely aware what her feminine charms can get her, and when those fail, what a few nice threats can achieve. A nation of contradictions.

There are many things Romana is stubborn about, including her religion, her family and their wellbeing. She’s unwilling to hear any harsh words against her religion, often leading to arguments when someone attempts to criticise it, and this also occurs when someone criticises one of her family member’s. In her eyes no one will ever be truly good enough for Venezia, North Italy, and she is so set in this belief there is no use even attempting to convince her otherwise. She’s also been known to ignore any of her sister’s faults when someone points them out, yet at the same time, she will point the same flaws out when she notices them. But it’s different, they’re sister’s, and as such only Romana can point out the flaws her family member’s have, while defending those flaws when another remarks on them.

She believes in her religion whole heartedly, but she does know its flaws. Still, it’s wise not to mention them to her, unless you want an irate woman. She also tries to be a good Catholic, though she’s been known to lapse her and there, especially in the case of Nyotalia Spain. It’s difficult, the bible frowns upon a relationship and in term, Romana’s not entirely sure how she feels about Spain, is it romantic, a friendship or a family relationship. Unfortunately, rather than attempt to figure it out, she avoids the issue and the two have a slightly shaky but relatively okay relationship where Romana calls Spain out on her dumb ideas, but at the same time, will defend her if she needs it.

Like the stereotypical Italian woman she’s a good if not brilliant cook, and it’s a task she rather enjoys. There’s always plenty of food on the table and if you reject her (repeated) offerings for seconds she’ll either be deeply offended and embarrassed that her cooking isn’t good enough, or ignore you and keep offering or even rant at you for not appreciating the food she’s slaved so hard over. Nothing like a good old guilt trip, and like I said she’s stubborn. No is simply a maybe, 1 meatball clearly means 3. It’s easier to just take the food you’ve been given and ask if you can take it home. You may end up with a metric fuckton of food but at least you won’t have an offended Italian.

She also takes great pride in her house and she’s the one that makes sure it’s clean, that Venezia’s paints are in her studio and Seaborg’s clothes are in the closet and not on the floor. She’s definitely the mother of the Italian sibling’s, and it’s her that fusses over her sisters’ the most, almost suffocating them in attention at times. Like her male self, Romana does not approve of the relationship between Venezia and Germany, though this disapproval did not become as strong as it currently is until after the Second World War, especially with Nazi Germany’s invasion of the Northern half of Italy, all the way down to Rome, after Italy signed the armistice with the Allies. This, in Romana’s opinion was crossing a very delicate line and she has never truly forgiven the German nation for those actions even if Germany herself had no control over her boss’s actions. They currently have a very tentative relationship, the only thing stopping Romana from kicking Germany into Mount Vesuvius being the tears she knows Venezia would produce. Romana will do pretty much anything for her family, including the other Italian nations as well as the Italian people or pretty much anyone she cares for. Children, for example, will always win her over despite how hard adults may try, especially with an impressive display of tears. They’re her number one weakness.

Speaking of her sister, Romana and Venezia have a far better relationship than Romano and Veneziano. Sure, they fight sometimes, but what sister’s don’t. Sure there’s a little bit of self confidence issues on Romana’s side, with her sister being the curvier one. In Romana’s mind, her slim waist and smaller bust can’t compare to her sister’s wide hips and larger chest, though in reality the sizes between the two aren’t that big, and Romana tends to not notice that she’s just as attractive as her sister, she just caters to a different audience. Her sister’s also a lot less modest that Romana in terms of dress, Venezia being more than happy to run around in short skirts and stomach showing shirts while Romana sticks to her knee length sundress’s and pastel colours. This difference in dress means that it’s only naturally that Venezia attracts so much more attention, especially when you add in her tendency to be easily excited and loud.

That doesn’t mean that Romana’s some shy little wall flower, like I said, she’s temperamental, she’s passionate. If she has a probably with someone’s opinion or ideas she’ll point it out, as well as point out all the flaws she can think of. This little lecture can often be coupled with violence, often a light bop to the head as if to punctuate her point. Just because she enjoys cooking, cleaning, and over all can seem like a traditional housewife, happy with her chores, doesn’t mean she is one. She’s a fan of team work, and if you even dare complain about being bored around her you’ll be quickly saddled with a few dozen tasks that need to be done. And if you know what’s good for you you’d best do them or she’ll chase you down, nag, and eventually they will be done. By your hands. She can be quite the bossy little woman at times.

As such, she’s not as easily pushed around as the male South Italy is. She is respected and liked within the mafia rather than abused, even though they have attempted to shelter her once or twice. Romana however isn’t about to put up with that bull and while she’s learnt many skills from the mafia she generally ignores their actions unless they start to sneak into the North of Italy, or begin to harm too many civilians. They’re her problem, and like a mother lecturing their naughty children she can be quick to pull them into line. But they’re a bit too hard to get rid of, so what can she do. Plus, a part of her likes having that power, the ability to use them as a threat. But they have served to make her stronger, teach her things she would never have known, and in a way they’re like her. Family first.

This connection to the mafia, as well as the true skill of the Italian soldiers in World War 2, ("The German soldier has impressed the world... However the Italian Bersaglieri has impressed the German soldier.” –Rommel. “The Italians were willing, unselfish and good comrades in the frontline. There can be no disputing that the achievement of all the Italian units, especially the motorised elements, far outstripped any action of the Italian Army for 100 years. Many Italian generals and officers earned our respect as men as well as soldiers”-Rommel.) means that Romana is a capable and relatively strong fighter, certainly a better one than Romano, as noted by Himaruya in his solitary character note, she is better at fighting than her male counterpart. She’ll rarely back down from a fight when it concerns someone she cares about, and she’ll do her utmost to win, even if it occasionally means having to accept help of those she dislikes for silly reasons (America is an overexposed bimbo, England a silly woman who wishes she was younger than she is, France a woman who can be quite snobby at times, all in Romana’s opinion. Things like that.)

Overall, Romana is a woman who loves as fiercely as she fights, who cleans and cooks and is the mother of her family, but isn’t about to walked over as if she’s a submissive housewife. She can be hard to impress, but just keep trying and eventually you can crack through her shell and once you’re in her heart she’ll never let you out of it.

Unless you hurt her sister, and then it’s a trip to see the fishies for you.

Canon Background:

In the 8th and 7th centuries BC, Greeks began to settle in Italy due to famine, overcrowding etc, as well as a need for expansion and net ports and outlets and expulsion from their homeland. During this period Romana came to be, a tiny little thing known as Magna Gracia by the Romans, or 'Great Greece'. Naturally for most of her early life Romana's main influence was a Greek one, and she was found first by Ancient Greece. The older man became somewhat of a mentor or surrogate grandfather to the little girl, teaching her all about his own culture, from religious rites to the dialects of Ancient Greece. With this influence Romana's own Hellenic civilisation developed, and it would later come to interact with the Italic and Latin, sharing things like a Chalcidean/Cumaean variety of the Greek alphabet with the Etruscans which would later evolve into the Latin alphabet. Not to mention how these new Hellenic cities became rich and powerful, like Capua, Neapolis (Naples). In 420 BC the port in Naples became one of the most important of the Mediterranean sea.

While Ancient Greece had a huge impact on her early years, he wasn't family. Over the years Romana had caught glimpses of her Grandmother, a powerful woman in armour, the strong Roman Empire. While she felt an attachment to Ancient Greece thanks to a shared culture and peoples a part of her knew that Ancient Rome was her family, and really it came at no surprise that at the end of the Pyrrhic War Romana found herself leaving Ancient Greece and being 'absorbed' into the Roman Republic. She would still see the older man through the years, but now the majority of her time was spent in the heart of the Republic, in Rome, under the eyes of her Grandmother. With the shift came a change in name, Romana now being given the name that would stick with her for the rest of her life - Italia Romana.

It was in Rome that she met her sister, Italia Venezia, for the first time, a little girl from the North. With hair a few shades lighter than Romana's and eyes that were amber not green, it was clear from the beginning that they had different influences in their formative years. Not to mention the differences in personalities, Venezia a much more cheerful girl while Romana was usually stubborn and even bratty. Her insecurities began right there, Romana unused to sharing the attention of an adult, and feeling inadequate to Venezia's easy cheerfulness. It was common to hear Ancient Roma cooing over the younger sister and complimenting her while forgetting to do so to the older.

Time went on. The girl's met their 'siblings': Gaul from the North, Hispania and Lusitania to the East. There was also Germania from the north, a silent strong woman who served as her Grandmother's bodyguard as well as friend in Ancient Rome's eyes. As Ancient Rome's granddaughters they were given an equal education unlike other human girls of the empire, though Ancient shied off teaching them warfare. She wanted her granddaughters to be artists and lovers, not soldiers. They were happy, but it wasn't to last.

As Romana would later learn, no Empires lasted forever. Ancient Rome grew weaker as her Empire fell apart and finally disappeared. While Romana could never prove it she always assumed it was Germanaia who committed the below that finally took her Grandmother, and it was there that her distrust in Germans began. From then to the Gothic Wars she lived under Germania's protection, the woman fulfilling her last favour for Ancient Rome by keeping her granddaughters safe.

In the 500's, after the Gothic Wars, Romana found herself coming under the rule of the Byzantine Empire. Again she was divided from her sister, but at the same time she was reunited with Ancient Greece, the older man having shifted into an Empire like her grandmother's. The Greek influence still remained in Southern Italy and Romana found herself adjusting to the shift in situation, though she found herself missing the little sister she had previously labelled annoying and attention seeking. Often, she would sneak away from Ancient Greece/Byzantine Empire to go to the north and check on the younger girl, always remembering her Grandmother's instructions to look after her younger sister. But overall she was still reasonably happy, even as she found herself starting to wish she would grow some more, becoming frustrated with the fact she still possessed the body of a five year old human child. It made it very difficult to be taken seriously.

Then from the 9th to the 11th centuries Romana found herself in a metaphorical game of keep away, with her as the ball... item being kept. Thing. Caught between Greece, Lombardy, and the Islamic Caliphate, the South found itself in the middle of many wars for control. For once Romana started to become afraid, her body still to childlike to put an end to the fighting. Not to mention she had no skills in warfare unlike her 'sisters' Gaul from the North, Hispania and Lusitania, thanks to her Grandmother's decision to not train them. So she just had to put up with it, being snatched by power to power, a fact that only made her insecurities grow as Romana began to believe that she was only wanted for the land she represented, and not because of who she was. It left her suspicious of people's intentions, and unable to fully trust someone completely, habits she has never been able to shake. In this period a few Islamic states were formed within her, by the Islamic Caliphate, such as the Emirate of Sicily and Emirate of Bari. This Arabic ruling left it's own influence, further darkening her skin and hair, making the physical differences between her and her sister only more noticeable. However by then Romana was mistrustful, and did her best to keep anyone from further influencing her culture. However it left it's mark on her art, as well as the language of Sicily, as much as it annoyed her.

By the 11th century the Normans had made their move and now occupied all the Lombard and Byzantine possession in South Italy, which ended the six centuries presence of both powers in the peninsula. Eventually they also expelled the Muslims from Sicily. However under Roger II the Norman Kingdom of Sicily was said to be characterised by it's multi-ethnic nature and religious tolerance, and he allowed Normans, Jews, Muslim Arabs, Byzantine Greeks, Lombards and the 'native' Sicilians to live together, creating a relative harmony. However this tolerance to different nationalities and religions was not something Romana truly learnt from, both from stubbornness, her belief that her people and her religion were better that those of the invading people. It also didn't help that the Norman domination did not last very long, formally ending in 1198, and thus couldn't really leave an impact on her like being under Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome did.

After the end of the Norman reign with Constance of Sicily, Romana was picked up by the Swabian Hohenstaufen dynasty, German Kings, three of whom were crowned Holy Roman Emperor. With Romana's previous negatives interactions with Germans through Germania still firmly embedded in her mind, she treated this take over with hostility, with one exception. She did not completely mind Emperor Frederick II, who did take quite good care of her, having a long commitment in developing her land, people and culture. He endorsed a legal reform in Sicily which culminated with the creation of the Constitutions of Melfi which was a collection of laws that were considered quite remarkable at the time, and would remain to be a source of inspiration for a long time after as well as remaining the basis of Sicilian law until 1819 (with slight changes over the years). He also made the Kingdom of Sicily a centralised state and his royal court in Palermo saw the first use of a literary form of an Italo-Romance language, Sicilian, which would then go on to significantly influence the beginnings of the modern Italian language. For these developments Romana does think kindly of Emperor Frederick II, though it is done rather grudgingly, and never out loud. She's a very stubborn girl, however the fact that she hasn't kicked up a fuss over the fact that the previously named University of Naples is now know as the Università Federico II shows her true feelings.

In 1266 conflict between the Hohenstaufen house and the Papacy led to Sicily being conquered by Charles I, Duke of Anjou, which then led into the War of Sicilian Vespers, caused by opposition to French officialdom and taxation as well as incitement of rebellion by both the Aragonese and Byzantine agents. The Sicilian Vespers successful invasion was led by Peter III of Aragon in 1282 and the war would last till 1302, ending with the Peace of Caltabellotta and the division of the old Kingdom of Sicily. This Romana clearly did not like, because again, it was more powerful countries, fighting over land that was hers, and peoples that were hers. But still, she had barely aged, her growth squashed by continuous changes in power and a reluctance to let in new culture and absorb those strengths. The actual island of Sicily was taken by Frederick III of Aragon, who had already been ruling it, while the peninsular territories which had previously been known also as the Kingdom of Sicily, but now know to the modern day as the Kingdom of Naples went to Charles II of Anjou, who had also been previously ruling that section. This peace was merely a formal act and an unstable status quo, and Romana would find herself being influenced by two different cultures, French and Spanish, which meant she was caught between her older sisters, something that would not be the first and last time. Thankfully, in Romana's opinion, the King of Spain was able
to grab both of the crowns starting from the 16th century, leaving Romana in the now teen-aged Spain's care, which was the lesser of two evils she decided. However it wasn't until 1816 that the Kingdoms were completely reunited as the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, which just gave Romana yet another name she was now known as.

Alfonso V was the one to conquer the Kingdom of Naples from the House of Anjou in 1442, and now Sicily and Naples were unified as dependencies of Aragon. In 1458 the kingdom was again separated when Alfonso died, with Naples going to his illegitimate son, Ferrante. Then when Ferrante died in 1494, Charles VIII of France invaded Italy and used the Angevin claim to the throne of Naples, an inheritance of his father, as a pretext. This then started the Italian Wars, and while Charles VIII managed to expel Alfonso II of Naples from, well, Naples, in 1495, he ultimately was forced to withdraw as Ferdinand II of Aragon support was for his cousin and Alfonso II's son Ferrantino, who was placed back on the throne. However he died soon after in 1496 and was succeeded by his uncle Frederick IV.

Naturally, the French did not give up their claim, agreeing in 1501 to a partition of the kingdom with Ferdinand of Aragon who had decided to abandon his cousin King Frederick. Of course the deal soon feel through, and France and Aragon resumed fighting over the kingdom, Ferdinand being the eventual winner in 1504, and while the are remained an area of dispute between France and Spain for several decades after, the French attempts to gain control begun to become weaker and the Spanish control was never truly threatened. Finally with the Treaty of Cateau- Cambrésis in 1559 the French gave up their claims to the kingdom, and Romana began to think she was finally going to be settled down. Even though France had never gained control of her, the years had being annoying, as France had occasionally attempted to physically take her from Spain, and while Romana at the time would refuse to admit it, she was beginning to grow attached to the older girl. She remembered Spain from her childhood, and had always had a better friendship with the girl, Spain reminding her of her Grandmother. So now that France had finally given up, she hoped nothing would happen for awhile and hopefully she would grow.

Even when the kingdom changed hands again, after the War of the Spanish Succession in the early 18th century, Romana's life was not completely uprooted. Austria, somehow sensing of knowing Romana's feelings towards Germans. While Naples and Sardina were given to Charles VI, Holy Roman Emperor in 1713, joined by Sicily in in 1720, Austria agreed to let Romana stay with Spain, knowing that the young girl had already began to form an attachment to the older, and that to break them apart would only hurt Romana. The fact that Romana's temper was already legendary probably also helped sway Austria's decision. Naples and Sicily would later by conquered by a Spanish Army in 1734, Charles, Duke of Parma, a younger son of King Philip V of Spain being installed as King of the two regions in 1735. It would later be left to Charles younger son Ferdinand IV when Charles inherited the Spanish throne from his half-brother in 1759.

But through all of this Romana stayed under Spain's care, slowly beginning to age, despite Spain constantly babying her. Perhaps because Spain had fought so hard and for so long to keep her hands on her, she was one of Spain's most favoured 'children', as the older would call them, despite the fact that Romana was nearly as old as her, unlike the South America colonies. Working as a maid for Spain, she would usually be found in the kitchen, assisting the women there and learning herself. She found herself keeping an eye on the younger South America colonies, and it was here her motherliness began to show, Romana often acting like an older sister to the others, especially so when Spain was extremely busy. She also received an education, and one that was more similar to a male's of the day, rather then the females. Spain believed in equal education for her colonies, which meant that Romana was well read, knew her mathematics and history, as well as the geography of the day, often being allowed to peer over Spain's maps. She was was also taught to fence by the older woman, a skill she did demand that Spain instruct her in. Slowly she aged from a small child into a pubescent girl, and she started to grow stronger. And through this time, she remained distant to her sister, the different courses their lives or history had gone through creating two girls that were different to the ones they had been at their grandmother's death. Despite this, Romana tried her best to keep and eye on her sister, even from a difference, and would often bug Spain to visit Austria and take her, so she could check on her.

Despite being conquered again by France and her Napoleon, a sense of nationalism growing in Italy. Even as Napoleon captured Naples in the name of the French Republic, Romana was starting to think enough was enough, these feeling urged on by the feelings of her people. King Ferdinand had fled Italy and would not return till June 1799 and would then dethroned by the now French Emperor Napoleon in 1806, who appointed his brother, Joseph, as King of Naples. In 1808, in the Edict of Bayonne, Napoleon moved his brother to Spain and appointed his brother-in-law as King of the Two Sicilies, however this meant they could only control the mainland portion of the Kingdom.

Character Information
Name: Victoria Kirkland
Canon Origin/Series: Hetalia (Nyotalia)
School Year: Fifth
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Blood status: Half-Blood
Personality: Victoria is outwardly prim, and proper. She likes people to see her as a lady.
However she holds a keen wit and delivers strong but well put sarcasm to everyone that comes across her. When something captures her attention she has a strong focus, though if she takes a disliking to someone or something she has a habit of completely dismissing it out of turn without another thought. She can be a tad prejudice and shy about certain things, but tends to come around once it’s explained to her.

Victoria also hides a very tender and sweet side. She has capacity for great love, compassion and kindness. But only to people who she feels deserves it.

Victoria also had a great passion for reading and writing, and when on her own she can generally be found with a large tome, or surrounded by notebooks and poorly drawn sketches of characters. Generally under a tree or on a staircase at the time.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): (The connection with Arthur has been cleared with his Mun)
Victoria is both Arthur’s cousin on his mother’s side, and a childhood close friend. She spent most of her time growing up with Arthur and his brothers, as well as her own brother, Peter.

Within the family it is very obvious that Victoria highly favours Arthur, as she makes no attempt to hide the fact that she ignores his brothers when they try to interact with her. As they grew up, Arthur and Victoria would spend a lot of time in each others houses. As such, Victoria would subject Arthur to Muggle television and culture, giving the full blood a better understanding of muggles and their practices.

Victoria spent her childhood being raised with her mother teaching her about the magical world, while her father would encourage her love for reading.

Character Information
Name: Aranea Serket
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
School Year: 5th
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Blood status: Halfblood (Pure father, Half mother)
Personality:
One could call Aranea quiet and studious, but then they would be showing how much they don't know her. Aranea talks, a lot, and once you get her started on a topic she's either knows a lot about or is passionate about it becomes a lot harder to shut her up. She is a well of information, but she has no idea how to dam it up. But she knows and admits she's guilty of this so it usually easy to forgive her.

Like many only child children, Aranea has a tendency to make conversations turn around to her. Part of this is due to the first 11 years of her life, as they've been all about her. Conversations with her mother have focused on her, and the lack of friends didn't help. Another part is due to her intelligence, she knows so much and why wouldn't she want to share all of her knowledge and why shouldn't she be proud of herself for knowing all of it.

That said Aranea has a good heart and a lot of good intentions. Nice and considerate, she does her best to help others, be this by listening to their problems or helping them with learning. It's just that her good intentions can get sidetracked by her flaws. But she's trying to work on it, and become a truly considerate and helpful person.

She also has some leadership qualities, able to take charge and find the solution to a problem. At the same time she's happy to be a follower, or part of a group effort it's all about what helps most.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
The product of a short affair, Aranea was born in England to a halfblood witch. As for her father, well she never met him, though according to her mother that was nothing to mourn. However that never stopped Aranea from daydreaming of who the man was, and hunting for scraps of information on the man who she shared her last name with.

Aranea's vivd and active imagination was an excellent source of entertainment and it was something that kept her company when her peers shunned her for her fondness for overcomplicated words and deep thought. And as a sole parent, Aranea's mother was often too busy to spend much time with her, and babysitters weren't the greatest source of company. Aranea had a good, secure upbringing yes, but it was a lonely one nevertheless.

Becoming accustomed to being on her own, Aranea indulged in books, fact and fiction and her immagination. When books became boring to her she began to create her own tales, utilizing toys to reenact the stories. It was during one of these reenactments that Aranea's magical abilities came to an obvious light to both girl and mother, Aranea's toys coming to life and acting on their own. Thus it was no surprise when that letter came from Hogwarts.

Arriving at Hogwarts with a trunk of spellbooks and a beautiful wand () Aranea took to her magical education like a fish to water. It was just like her stories, an adventure of her very own. Absorbing knowledge like a sponge she became a bit of a know-it-all with a tendency to ramble about minute details to uncaring students. While this didn't isolate her like it did in the muggle world, it does mean her friends are few, though Aranea is used to it.

Those who looked beyond Aranea's personality flaws though found it well worth it, discovering a kind and compassionate girl. She does her best to help out where ever she can, often offering to tutor classmates and younger students tutoring in the classes she excels in, charms and history, though really she's one of the best students in her year.

Looking forward to her 5th year Aranea plans to return to Hogwarts with a head already crammed full with half the year's work, and plans to excel at her OWLs.

How did you hear about us?: I‘ve been here a while

Character Information
Name: Marshall Lee the Vampire King
Canon Origin/Series: Adventure Time (the gender swapped episode “The Adventures of Fionna and Cake”)

School Year: 5th

Gender: Male

Age: [Physically: 16 Actually: 195

Blood status: Was a halfblood when he was actually alive.

Personality: Marshall Lee is a free spirited and relatively care free vampire. He has an adventurous nature and enjoys travel. In his long life he’s made his way around nearly all of both Wizarding and Muggle England. (Twice he’ll say)
He enjoys teasing and pranking people and can be a bit of a flirt sometimes and occasionally goes a bit too far with both. He’s quite musically inclined and can be found hanging out with his guitar, writing songs and singing as well. Music is a big part of his life and from having lived for so long he’s learned to play a multitude of instruments and knows a lot about music history in both the Muggle and Wizarding worlds.
Marshall Lee can be a bit contrary in that despite his true age and having several lifetimes of life experience he usually has the mentality of a typical rebellious sixteen year old boy. He can have his moments of wisdom or seriousness sometimes even though he doesn‘t like thinking too hard about serious things. (Such as how he’ll always outlive the mortal friends he makes)
He often pretends to not care about other people that much but in reality he values the close friends that he does have and will be a loyal friend.

Re: Canon OC -Marshall Lee- Adventure Time- 2/2 BOGO FORM

[personal profile] axe_bassist 2012-08-14 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Background (AU!Canon; HP):
Marshall Lee’s story is one of not so typical boy-meets-girl-girl-turns-boy-into-vampire.
Born in 1817 in the textile district of Lancashire England, he was the only son of a poor cotton mill worker mother and an enterprising young wizard father. Marshall’s father however left shortly after he was born and he and his mother had to fend for themselves.

Around the age of ten, Marshall’s magical abilities began to manifest. He tried his best to hide them as to not upset his mother. Unfortunately she found out when his letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry arrived. At first, his mother was a bit distraught to realize that her son had taken after his father but after a lot of pleading on Marshall’s end she finally let him attend.

Once at Hogwarts Marshall began to finally realize that in the Wizarding world he stuck out. Not only did he have a limited knowledge of the Wizarding world itself but being poor didn’t help him much either. A lot of kids were mean to him and as a result he began acting out in school, often ending up in detention for being disruptive, insubordinate or for some form of mischief or another.
The one thing that he truly enjoyed about school and actually put effort into was the music program. Marshall ended up having a natural talent for stringed instruments and for singing. The music professor at the time, hoping to install any kind of discipline in Marshall, gave him a guitar to take home over breaks and practice with. (Which he still has in safekeeping to this day)

Unfortunately for Marshall this brief time of peace was about to come to an end. At the beginning of his fifth year he was expelled from Hogwarts for fighting with another student and causing the other student to be sent to the hospital wing.
Marshall himself didn’t really care much but he didn’t want to put any additional financial stress on his already overworked mother so he left Hogwarts and home both and took to the road in both the Muggle and Wizarding worlds.
He earned a meager living by playing his guitar on the streets and playing in taverns in exchange for a meal or boarding. All of this changed however once he met Ashlynne one evening in a run down tavern.
Marshall had been playing that evening when the pretty girl with the long blond hair and pale skin caught his attention. After his set, she boldly went up to him and introduced herself and they spent the rest of the evening talking for hours. Sparks flew and from that began a whirlwind romance. He fell and he fell hard.
After some time passed Ashlynne revealed her true nature to Marshall and begged him to let her turn him so they could be together. Not really thinking about the consequences he readily agreed and the deed was done.
At first things were fantastic. Ashlynne taught Marshall all he needed to know about being a vampire and what abilities they had. As time went on though, he began to see Ashlynne for what she really was, a vicious and selfish person who had little to no regard for anyone but herself. Marshall would at least try to feed on criminals and lowlifes but Ashlynne would gleefully feed off of anyone anytime though Muggles were her choice of victim due to their general ignorance of vampires. He found himself becoming increasingly disgusted with her behavior and began making an escape plan behind her back.
The last straw and the way out for him came when she told him she didn’t want him to bother with his music anymore. That night when the separated to go hunting, he quietly left town and Ashlynne behind.
Once he made his escape, he began traveling and playing his music again trying to maintain a semblance of a regular life and at the same time manage to lie low on other vampire’s radar.
Over the next hundred and seventy-some odd years he began doing things such as saving money and making a permanent and hidden residence for himself in The Fens. Having experienced the birth of rock and roll and grunge and loving it, he continued playing in small clubs and venues with various bands throughout the years.
Unfortunately for Marshall he was about to go back on every vampires radar due to an unfortunate incident of a Muggle happening upon one of his feedings in a relatively small town. Mass hysteria ensued and headlines about “Vampires are real!” began popping up in Muggle newspapers throughout the county.
A long time contact of his suggested that he go into hiding from both the Muggle and vampire population for a while. Marshall had spent so much time in the Muggle world it didn’t even occur to him to look for help in the Wizarding world. He fled to Diagon Alley and after wandering around there for a while he eventually gathered information on the safest places around. It was generally agreed upon by all that he spoke to that Hogwarts was the safest place any Wizard could ever be. Marshall further discovered who the new Headmaster of Hogwarts was and sent a letter asking if he might be given sanctuary temporarily until he could find other arrangements. Dumbledore wrote back agreeing on the condition that Marshall had to finish the education at Hogwarts that he started and that he must take potions to control his bloodlust. Marshall accepted these terms and thus resumed his education at Hogwarts.

How did you hear about us?: Current player in the game
Character Information
Name: Ib (Some sources have stated that Ib is short for Isabella, while the original translator of the game claims that Ib is a mispronunciation of Eve. I will opt for the latter.)
School Year: 1st year
Gender: Female
Age: 11
Out of school living location: Greater London. In this AU Ib's parents moved from Japan to work in London, and Greater London is known for having one of the bigger Japanese communities in the UK.
Blood status: Raised Muggleborn, but is biologically Pureblood.

Personality:

Ib is a quiet young girl who prefers not to speak if she can help it. A natural born introvert she doesn't speak much unless spoken to and as a result, she is not a very sociable person. She's a bit of a loner simply because she prefers painting by herself rather than hanging out with her friends. She lives in her own little world and she's fine with this. This is not to say that she isn't a friendly person; she can be helpful and caring towards others, even strangers. However a friendship with Ib has to come from the other party; she won't make the first step. She's not against having friends, but her own preference for solitude and her passive nature is definitely a barrier to her opening up to others.

Although Ib is a difficult person to make friends with she is blessed with a very loving heart. She cares and is concerned about other people's well-being even if she doesn't know them. She doesn't like hurting others or seeing others getting hurt because of her. However if it's to protect someone from harm, Ib is willing to make the hard decisions. For a 9 year old girl, she demonstrated nerves of steel when it came to protecting Garry, her fellow prisoner.

Although Ib has her moments of maturity, she is still a child and will act as such at times when she is very stressed. She is capable of getting upset and throwing slight tantrums when things are going horrible for her; these are the moments when she is most vocal and assertive. She isn't brave but rather she does brave things simply for survival or because someone she cares about is in danger. At the end of the day she is still 9 years old, and the events at the museum were definitely horrifying and potentially traumatizing for her. She even collapses at one point from the mental and psychological stress.

Lastly, Ib is bright, observant young girl. She's sharp, and that combined with her quick thinking has definitely saved her skin more than once. She is alert enough to notice small irregularities that hint at the answer to a puzzle. Ib is also curious, especially if a topic she likes is involved or if it's something interesting and/or new. She's usually a quiet one but when art is the subject matter she starts to play 20 questions, even with random strangers at the art gallery. However her grasp of English is not particularly good; she relies on Gary to inform her on the meanings of certain words.

Canon Background: Ib lives in a relatively normal world like ours, except that magic can happen, and is not necessarily friendly. The game plot is here.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): [The first word is Pooting.]
Ib started out life as an orphan; she never knew her real parents and she spent her first five years living in an orphanage in Japan. She was later adopted by her Muggle parents. As the two wanted to give her a special name as their first child and because they were both graduates in English, they gave her an English name: Eve, pronounced as "Ib", Ee-b in Japanese. Life was rather unassuming for her. She had a normal childhood with two loving parents who, while busy, tried to make sure they spent as much time with their child as possible. However, very few things could make Ib smile or snap her out of her own dream world; pretty clothes, yummy food, trips to amusement parks...her parents were concerned that she did not display normal childish excitement at any of these. Ib herself was not very interested in these things; her sole passion lay in art, and it was when her parents gave her her first paint set for her 7th birthday that they finally saw Ib emerge out of her shell. She loved painting. She did it at every spare moment she could get. Her parents, cuing in on this immediately, enrolled her into extra art classes and made sure to buy her new materials whenever she needed it. They encouraged her and brought her to art exhibitions whenever they had the time.

Ib and her parents spent her 9th birthday in the UK. Her parents were doing some work there but they still found the time to obtain the perfect gift for their daughter's birthday: a day's pass to the exhibition of the famous artist Guertena's works. Ib, long bored with her stay in the UK, immediately perked up at the suggestion and quickly agreed to it. She went to the exhibition, keen on viewing the different paintings and sculptures, hopeful to find something she could draw when she got back to the London apartment.

What she found instead was a door to a different world.

The artist Guertena wasn't just a normal artist; he was a wizard who specialized in transfiguration. While he did not cast much magic on his art during his lifetime, it was his final years that saw him attempt to bring life to some of his pieces as well as a desire to somehow live on after his death. Guertena painted wizard portraits but a few years before his death he illegally experimented and tried to create not only representations, but real life beings, through art. His hope was that he could paint himself and carry on living. Guertena never succeeded in his chase for immortality and he died with regret that not one of his works actually came to life. All he had managed to create were horrible disfigured monsters; women half stuck in canvasses, dolls that could not imitate flesh, as well as sculptures that lacked intelligence and feelings. Before his death, he threw all the failed experiments into a space he had created with some tricky transfiguration magic.

What he did not realise though was that one of his paintings had actually done the impossible. A painting entitled "Mary" became a real-life young witch trapped in the surreal art that made up Guertena's dumping site for his illegal experiments. Mary had hopes, feelings and dreams; she wanted to live in the outside world and experience all its wonders. However, Guertena's spell kept her locked inside. She spent many days staring at the portal to the outside world; yet another one of Guertena's pieces that would show her the world outside the portrait. In time she developed her own magic and came to control the other experiments as well, but she longed for human companionship and love.

Eventually she found out from one of Guertena's discarded notes that she could leave the world but only if someone else took her place. She got her chance when finally Guertena's lock on the portal started weakening and she nabbed the first person she could get her hands on: a young, slightly effeminate man who had been staring at the painting on the wall.

However to her horror she discovered she still could not escape. Referring back to the notes she realised that while her magic was strong enough to drag someone through the portal, she needed a real witch to bring her out. The Muggle she had entrapped was useless, and in frustration and childish temper she damaged the blue rose that symbolized his life in the strange world and left him to die.

And this is when Ib came into play.

Mary had noticed Ib staring intently at the paintings and saw how she asked questions about them. Mary liked her, but what Mary liked even more was the fact that Ib had the potential for magic. Once again Mary drew yet another victim into the world of Guertena, but this time with the intent on befriending Ib and convincing her to escape with Mary and to leave Garry behind.

Ib soon found herself terrified in Guertena's twisted realm. Running for her life at nearly every room she wanted nothing more to go home with her two new friends. Mary's deception and true identity was revealed by Garry. Mary took vengeance by stealing Garry's rose and ripping all the petals off, thereby effectively dooming Garry to remain in Guertena's world. Upset, Ib ran after Mary hoping to somehow convince the painting to bring her friend back but all she found was an empty picture frame. Any chances of talking with Mary went out the window as the girl screeched and ran at Ib with a palette knife. In a fit of panic, Ib used the lighter that Garry had given her and set the picture frame on fire. Right before her eyes, she saw Mary burn up into ashes. Left alone, with no Mary and no way to save Garry, Ib wandered deeper within the world, eventually stumbling upon the portal back home. The presence of her magic activated the portal and quick-witted Ib realised she had found her way home. However, Guertena's world tried one more time to trap her within, sending illusions of Garry and her mother. Ib, tired of all the games, ignored the cries of the fakes and leapt right into the painting. She resurfaced back into her world, but with no memory of her time with Garry and Mary. A single painting of an effeminate man sleeping titled "Forgotten Portrait" struck a chord within her, but she quickly moved on from the painting, and went home none the wiser.

When she was 11 her parents received a job offer to work in London. Excited at the prospect of finally getting their dream job, they and Ib migrated to the UK. There was more excitement awaiting the Japanese family, when a strangely dressed wizard stepped out of their fireplace to tell them about a school for wizards and witches, which is what Ib was. For Ib's parents, they saw it as a chance for her to learn English and to mingle with other students her age and they quickly agreed. However, the wizard's appearance had a different impact on Ib; him stepping out of the fireplace had triggered something, and for a brief moment she remembered stepping into a nightmare through a giant painting...

Whatever it was though was quickly shoved away from her attention as she and her parents started looking for her books, her robes, and her wand. Her English had been improving, but there were still a lot of hurdles facing her as she nervously waited for the day the Hogwarts Express would take her to a brand new life.

Ib hasn't had any prior experiences with magic, save for her trip down art hell. However, she has a healthy does of creativity and she's very detailed with her work. This would probably help in subjects like Potions, where measurements must be as exact as possible but also allowing her room to experiment a little with her own ideas. Ib would also probably be good in Charms, a subject that would allow a little of her creativity to shine through. However, she would not be good in Defence against the Dark Arts as she dislikes any form of fighting, even in defence. Ib will also drift off in History of Magic, preferring to doodle all over her book instead of paying attention to class.

[The second word is Dragon.]

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor:
Ib isn't very brave, but she is willing to be brave for the sake of protecting her friends and herself. In her original canon she's just 9, but she tangles with dangerous mannequins, dolls and a semi-psychotic painting intent on killing Garry. Instead of letting fear cripple her, she uses her fear to propel her onwards. However, Ib is not much of a leader; her passive nature prevents her from taking the lead, and she'd rather rely on someone else (eg Garry, and before she went psycho, Mary) than take control herself.

Hufflepuff:
In the game, each character is given a rose that represents their life. The colour of the rose also hints at the character's identity. Ib's rose in the game is a red rose, symbolizing love. This cannot be further from the truth: Ib is a girl who loves people and would do anything to protect them. She risks her life to rescue Garry, although she failed, she potentially risked herself being trapped in the art world for a chance to bring her friend home with her. She is loyal to her friends, and when push came to shove she demonstrated that she would never leave any of them behind if she could. She regrets that she had to kill Mary; they got along quite well as two little girls, and she's sure that in the right circumstances they could've been friends. This demonstrates a caring nature and a big heart, despite her little size.

Ravenclaw:
Ib is very astute; there are a lot of puzzles in the art museum that she had to solve, even before she met up with Garry and Mary. She has an eye for detail, developed due to her painting hobby, and she is quick to notice irregularities. She also thinks fast; she may not be very smart, and her English may need a lot more work, but she demonstrates flexibility and creativity even in bad situations. She's also creative and she's good at drawing, and she's got the Ravenclaw curiosity when it comes to topics she's interested in.

Slytherin:
Ib is not a really good fit for Slytherin; she is not particularly sly or cunning as she is too honest to engage in any form of manipulation. She would feel horrible if she lied to anyone. She doesn't demonstrate a lot of ambition either; she's happy enough to just get by. The one thing she may choose to excel in is art, but even than she's content to not be the best; she just likes art just because it's art.

How did you hear about us?: ~*Magic*~

Character Information
Name: Eriq Slepner
School Year: 6th
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Out of school living location: Cambridge, England
Blood status: Muggleborn

Personality: To say Eriq is a spoiled, arrogant brat is a bit of an understatement. Prior to being a wizard, he grew up in an upper-middle class environment, son to two parents with high paying jobs. The only sort of hardship he's ever known is his life has been social in nature, and most of it is entirely his own fault. Living in such high-class digs has made him more than a little entitled, and the fact that he's smarter than average doesn't help very much. He's very competitive, always eager to show off how much better he is than everyone else. More often than not, that ends with him in trouble, firstly because he's as thin as a rail and secondly because he's a mouthy little muggleborn who doesn't know when to shut his mouth.

But he's not all sass and witty comebacks. He's highly reclusive and tends to stick to himself, often burying himself in his morbid brand of science/magic. Because of this, he has a habit of getting caught up in his work, his brain occupied by things other than his surroundings, lending itself to a thoughtless personality. He's not very good at keeping track of the time, and when sufficiently caught up, completely forgets about things like eating and sleeping. Thankfully, this is tempered by vanity and the belief that appearance is half the battle, so at the very least it keeps him from appearing in public unwashed. People are less likely to take you seriously if you don't look the part. His preoccupation also ties to his tendency to thoughtlessly run his mouth, oblivious to any sort of personal boundaries or triggers another person may have. He has no problems with asking others about their own feelings, and is prone to pushing beyond what is comfortable. This results from a combination of not recognizing the signs, an overclocked sense of curiosity, and self-centered disregard for other people. He needs to know how everything works, and he enjoys taking things apart or dissecting them in search of the answers. He rarely asks permission for anything, simply assuming the right of way, and when denied, he reacts with indignant confusion. When things don't go his way, he is not above throwing a hissy fit, and will whine, screech, hiss, and throw things until appeased, or his anger runs out.

The only thing he is particularly recalcitrant about is in regards to his own emotions. This is in part because he doesn't particularly enjoy introspection, fearing that he might find out his confidence is only a lie, and that he's not really as great as he thinks he is. Because of this, (and because he's a delicate glass flower) he avoids most face to face confrontations, preferring to yell at people from a safe distance. It also means that if he feels that he cannot win, he will give up with out putting up a fight, following the path of least resistance. Despite being the cause of his own misery most of the time, he doesn't actually like struggle or difficulties. If something doesn't come easily to him, he considers it not worth his time. He does, however, like making difficult for other people, so if he can manipulate others with false promises and lies into doing his dirty work, then he will.

Original Background:
No matter how logical and methodical science is, sometimes it still manages to throw a curveball. For Mr. and Mrs. Slepner, and engineer and a pediatrician respectively, that curveball came in the form of their son Eriq. He was always the weird child, growing up. The one who sat in the corner reading books instead of playing. The one who liked ghosts and monsters and poking dead things with his bare hands instead of with a stick like you were supposed to. The one who was just a little bit smarter than his classmates, and not afraid of showing off. He didn't make friends often, but those he did usually were just as strange as he was. They had hoped it was a phase. That all the nonsense about ghosts in the attic and monsters under the bed would lose their appeal as he grew up and began to understand the world around him. They kept many educational books around, and by the time Eriq was eleven, things were starting to go in their favor. He'd just started expressing an interest in biology when It came.

It being Eriq's acceptance letter into Hogwarts.

For his part, Eriq was overjoyed. Being a wizard, well that explained everything, as far as he was concerned! Of course he never fit in with normal kids, he was wizard with awesome super magic powers! Of course they picked on him, they could sense that he was just so awesome and they were jealous. They clearly wanted to be wizards too, but they couldn't so they tried to bring him down to their level. It was like the heavens opened up and a heavenly chorus sang out how everything was meant to be.

Of course, his parents regarded the letter as a prank. It didn't matter how many times he explained that an owl, a real live owl dropped it off, that it didn't freak out or bite him when he touched it, and that he gave it kidneys from the refrigerator, they were very firmly against any sort of wizarding nonsense. Not only did it go against the grain of logic, it was just impossible. Magic wasn't real. It was all tricks and illusions and sleight of hand. Sufficiently explained magic was no different than science, and this school did not, could not exist.

Eriq promptly threw a fit and locked himself in his room, only ever coming out when he was forcibly dragged out at meal times. He never spoke to anyone, and when he did, it was only to ask if they were going to let him go to Hogwarts yet. It was, in a word, exasperating, and a week before the term started, they finally gave in and agreed to take Eriq to this Leaky Cauldron pub in London, if only to prove that it didn't exist.

Needless to say, when they found that it did exist, they were too flabbergasted to do anything other than acquiesce to all of Eriq's requests. That year, in addition to all his school supplies, he came home from Diagon Alley with a Goliath Bird-Eater spider he named Trollki and a gray Eastern Screech Owl named Bean-sídhe. It wasn't until they got home and Eriq disappeared into his room once more that they wondered why he couldn't have just gotten a cat like a normal child.

Hogwarts turned out to be everything he dreamed of and less. Sure, there were real ghosts and magical creatures and everything he dreamed about was real, but by the end of the first year, he went home feeling terribly disappointed. He was no more accepted at Hogwarts than he'd been at muggle school. In a house that was supposedly full of others just like him, he still felt a little out of place and made only a few friends. This was because he set his expectations too high, imagining people falling all over themselves to be friends with him, like Hogwarts was an instant, magical fix to all his problems, and it wasn't. (This wasn't his fault, of course)

He wasn't to be deterred. His ego was big enough to handle it, he just had to tell himself that those who didn't immediately see his greatness were just blinding themselves to the truth out of jealousy. He's gone through every year with this belief bolstered by his studies. He does well in most of his classes, especially Potions and Defense Against Dark Arts (though he's much better at the Dark Arts part than the Defense Against). He's weirdly enthusiastic about Divination, despite being awful at it and nowhere near seer material. His muggle background insists that it's basically the same as being a medium, and he refuses to let that belief go. He half-asses his way through History of Magic and Astronomy, though he still gets slightly better than average marks.

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor:
This is really the worst house for him. While sure, he does have nerve, a tendency to leap without looking, and a blatant disregard for the rules, he's really terribly self-absorbed, and a bit of a coward, really. He's definitely not the guy to lay down on a wire for his fellow man; more likely, he's the one happily crawling over the one who would, taking advantage of their good intentions for his personal gain. And when the going gets tough, he gets out.

Hufflepuff:
Eriq's really only loyal to himself, and to be honest, not really a fan of hardwork, either. Sure, he does enjoy a bit of hands-on research and getting himself dirty in the name of knowledge and higher learning, but for everything else, he'd really rather have a minion or five. Fair play is for people who aren't smart enough to cheat. A proud honey badger standing his ground, he is not.

Ravenclaw:
Eriq is generally the sort of person likely to end up in Ravenclaw. He's very smart. He loves books. He loves the knowledge they contain. He loves the smell of them, the feel of them, the glorious weight in his hands. Unfortunately, Eriq's arrogance tends to get in the way of his intelligence, leading him to do very stupid things. He's also not one for knowledge for knowledge's sake. Though he can appreciate it in all its forms, he prefers it as a means to an end, and only focuses on topics of interest to him, or things he can use to complete a task. He is not an original thinker, and prefers to build upon and improve already established concepts. Most of the time, the books he can be found curled up with are trashy vampire novels.

Slytherin:
Eriq is great. He is so great. He would love to tell you all the ways he's great and you're not. While he can be a bit oblivious at time, he does understand the power of words and appearances, and can and will say anything to get his way. On top of that, he's very good at bullshitting. He doesn't need to know everything in order to make it sound like he does (which doesn't always work around people who DO know more than him, but it does around most people). If you can fake it well enough, you can get anyone on your side. He's much better at theory than he is at application, but he does try. He's also competitive, wanting to be the best and have followers and minions to boss around.

Marina Prescott | OC 2/3

[personal profile] vastexpletive 2012-08-31 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: If Marina comes off as someone who only looks out for herself, then that would be a completely accurate statement. She isn’t someone who wants or needs a lot of friends, and in fact would rather just be left alone. She comes off as cold, distant and downright angry when she actually does socialize with people. A big factor in pushing people away is that she simply speaks whatever comes to mind. She is a very outspoken person and refuses to censor herself no matter who she’s talking to, and usually whatever comes to mind is far from nice. She deliberately says harsh things to push people away, often choosing words that will cut deep and really hurt. After all, she learned from the best when it comes to choosing hurtful words.

The reason for her pushing people away and not getting close to them is that she just doesn’t trust people. Growing up, she always had a very... strained, borderline abusive relationship with her mother. In actuality, it was at the very least emotionally abusive, to the point Marina began building walls and pushing people away so that she wouldn’t get hurt. She developed the habit of lashing out at people in defense of herself, both verbally and physically, depending on the person. She’s very much not afraid of fights, as she’s learned from a young age to defend herself physically, and as a result a part of her is always ready to fight, always ready to defend herself. The reason being that she’s had to defend herself against some of the men her mother’s brought home from time to time and It’s made her paranoid and untrusting of people. The paranoia also causes her to sleep with a knife under her pillow while she’s at home. At school, she only got away with this for so long before her knife was eventually confiscated. Instead, she sleeps with her wand close by. She’s always ready to defend herself. She’s made herself think that everyone in the world could potentially hurt her. As a result, she tends to be the one to make the first move by challenging people to fights at the slightest provocation. She’s become very good at fighting as a result.

Because of her relationship with her mother, Marina has developed a hatred towards authority. She doesn’t respect her mother at all and never learned to to respect other people in a position of authority and her natural instinct is to do the opposite of what she’s told to do. This extends to ordinary people as well. The one sure fire way to piss her off is to try telling her what to do. If someone were to claim that the reason she acts out is for attention, she would be quick to deny it, but it isn’t as far from the truth as she would claim it is. She’s never had a positive person in her life and to be honest, there’s a small part of her that wishes everyone wasn’t such scum. What she doesn’t realize is that not everyone is. She just assumes that everyone has ulterior motives and that if they’re nice to her, it’s for their own personal gain and nothing more. She’s incapable of believing that people can be sincere which is another reason she pushes people away. It really all just goes back to her core issue; she doesn’t trust people.

Or at least, one of her core issues. The other big reason why she comes off so hostilely towards people is that years of being put down and insulted by her mother have basically destroyed her confidence. To compensate, she’s developed the mentality that she always has to be the best. This is why her temper is always quick to flare and she jumps at the chance to get into fights. If she’s the strongest, if she’s the best, then she can feel like she’s worth something and not simply a waste of space like her mother’s always said she is. She would deny the fact that anything her mother says gets to her, but a lot of it has buried down deep and simply won’t let go no matter how much she denies it. Instead, she copes by anger and violence.

She’s also developed the habit of drinking booze and doing drugs on occasion. It’s worse during the Summer months when no one can really stop her. She’s gotten caught too many times at school to risk it. It’s probably for the best though, as it’s really the Summer that she needs it most, as that’s when she’s forced to go back home. She’s certainly learned to tone herself down at school, carefully toeing the line between acceptable and unacceptable after a few years of practice. As much as she claims she hates being at Hogwarts, it’s pretty much the only place she actually feels happy. If she were to ever get expelled, she would probably be irreparably damaged and not recover from it. Striving to stay in Hogwarts is probably the hardest thing she’s ever done, but is the one thing that she’s determined to not screw up.

Despite all of this, Marina isn’t so closed off from the world (yet) that she’s completely incapable of making friends. Theoretically, if someone were to take the time and actually try and get to know her instead of just brushing her off and labelling her an asshole, then it would do a world of good to her. It would of course be slow going; she’s not one to let her walls down easily, or even completely, but eventually they would discover that she’s not all anger and rage all of the time. While she would still be defensive and abrasive, she would actually be able to hold a conversation that doesn’t devolve into her insulting people and lashing out. She would be fiercely and irrationally loyal to a friend if she were to have one because she would value that friendship. Probably more than she should, but she would latch on to them and if anyone were to mess with them, she wouldn’t hesitate to cut someone. She wouldn’t latch on in obvious ways- no, she would still remain seemingly unattached and distant, but they would have her loyalty and she would make sure not to cross the line and really hurt her friends. Or at least she would try, because she’s Marina, and Marina is really not good at socializing.

Even without that one person to help her through it, she is still capable of, on the rare occasion, holding a civil conversation with someone if they don’t piss her off right away. Her tone is usually coated in sarcasm and annoyance, but if something pings her interest (like for instance music) then she’s capable of civil conversation. It’s a rare occurrence and any little bump along the way can ruin it, but it goes to show that she’s not always 100% guarded to the point that she can’t have a conversation that isn’t full of anger and violent threats.

She also gets along with people who are similar to her, albeit only if she’s in the leader position and they know not to cross her or otherwise offend her. Young kids who are in a position similar to her are also somewhat of a soft spot, though she would never outright say it. Her actions would speak louder than any words, and if she ever saw a kid being treated the way she’s been treated, she wouldn’t hesitate to defend them. She would deny her motivations, of course, but it’s because she sympathises with them and deep down really wouldn’t want a kid to grow up like she has.

Probably due in large part to the fact that she’s had to learn to tone herself down at Hogwarts, Marina is slowly starting to realize, even outside of school, when she’s taking things too far. She knows when she’s on the path to true self destruction and sometimes, she’s capable of pulling herself back and attempting to calm down. The keyword is sometimes. If it wasn’t obvious by now, Marina has a temper. Sometimes, just as she can control herself and calm down, the opposite is true and that temper can sometimes makes way to blinding rage that is just impossible to control. She doesn’t get like that extremely often, however. It’s mainly when she’s pushed to the extreme emotionally and mentally, and when/if she feels like she’s backed into a corner. The only thing that can actually calm her down is time. Given time, she’ll calm down and back off and when she does, she’s likely to skulk off and want to be completely alone.

In a slightly unrelated news, Marina also has an extremely fucked up view of what’s right and wrong. She’s a very survival oriented person. Because of the usual lack of food and water at home and Marina’s need to be the best and survive, she took to shoplifting at a fairly young age and hasn’t looked back since then. This ties in with her hatred for authority, because rather than just stealing things when she needs to now, she’ll occasionally steal just because she can, to spite the authority she hates so much. This also leads into a natural curiosity and interest in dark magic. She doesn’t see the harm in it because it’s just another form of magic. She’s not interested in it because it’s evil or that she wants to be evil, but a part of her is interested in it because it’s so forbidden.

A big motivator for stealing and the like is that she feels the need to be in control of something, and her actions are the one thing she can control in a life that’s fairly unpredictable. She doesn’t know when her mother will get a job, she doesn’t know who the hell she’s going to bring home next or when the next meal will be provided. So she’s taken things into her own hands by providing for herself and taking control of the few aspects that she can, whether illegal or not. This has, of course, gotten her into trouble, but because of that she’s learned to cunning and a good liar in order to get away with things. She isn’t infallible, but she’s learned enough to get away with more than the average person.

To sum her up, Marina is a very troubled and angry person, which is immediately apparent when talking to her. What isn’t apparent are the reasons. She keeps those locked away tight because they aren’t the problem. She doesn’t realize (or rather, refuses to admit) that her mother is the reason she’s so angry and has so many insecurities buried deep down. In Marina’s opinion, there is nothing wrong with her and she doesn’t have any problems at all. Sure she gets into trouble a lot, and sure people say mean things to her and treat her like shit, but that’s fine. She can take it and she can dish it back out tenfold. She refuses to admit that she has any problems and that she is in fact, a very broken person. Denial is perhaps one of her biggest traits, tying everything together to form who she is.

Personality: Rua's personality is a reflection of her troubled past; she has trouble trusting others (especially men and authority figures), she has a morbid outlook on almost everything, and avoids social interaction when she can. The little socializing she does do is with ghosts and whatever bookish types she can find who will tolerate her sometimes odd personality.
Rua is not attracted to boys, though would be attracted to girls if she could get over her hang-ups about what happened to her mentor, Kel. In general, Rua has trouble letting go of things, carrying every little tragedy in her heart for far longer than is healthy.
Rua is convinced that she is haunted by the ghost of Kel (despite assurances from staff and other ghosts that she is not), because Rua frequently "sees" Kel following her about in a ghostly patronus-like form. Rua's patronus even looks like her dead mentor, and Rua has been known to talk to Kel when she thinks she is alone and even involuntarily summons the patronus to comfort her when she is sad or scared.
As something of a protective mechanism, Rua prefers "socializing" via the journals instead of face-to-face as much as she can get away with. When she does socialize, she tends to be very sarcastic as a means of hiding any of her vulnerabilities. Often times, she tries to just hide in her room or the library and read, but it seems the other students have an annoying tendency of dragging her off to do some stupid thing or another.

Original/Canon Background: Rua is a character from my comic, Twice Blessed, who hasn't had a lot of screen time yet but will play a bigger part in the future. In the comic, Rua is a sorceress who was adopted in her adolescence by a mage named Kel. Kel sensed great and unusual Shadow potential in Rua and trained her as her apprentice.
Rua was born in an alternate version of Ireland called Athair, and was raised in what is basically an alternate version of Germany, on the edge of the Veritas Empire's border. More information about her world can be found here. (Warning, I'm having some technical hiccups with the site right now, send me a message if you can't get through.)
Their relationship was somewhat dysfunctional, for while Kel loved Rua in a more maternal way, Rua secretly developed a strong crush on Kel. The priesthood of Veritas decided that Kel was dangerous and raided her home with the intent of trying and executing Kel and Rua as witches. Kel died so that Rua could get to safety, and it tore Rua apart.
When divine magic could not save Kel, Rua delved deep into her studies of shadow magic and tried to use to pull Kel back from the River Styx. In doing so, she almost killed herself and tore a rift between the realm of the living and the dead. Kel's spirit was returned to the world as a specter, who then sought out Delbin, the champion of Shadow. Delbin begrudgingly sealed the portal and saved Rua, but from now Rua is literally haunted by the ghost of the woman who meant so much to her, slowly driving her more mad.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): Rua was born in the town of Cratloe in Clare county, Ireland. From the time she was born, many strange happenings followed her about: lights would flicker and go out without explanation, whispers of the dead would fill a silent room, and/or temperatures would plummet in a room on a warm summer day. Her parents, both wizards of rather limited power, moved to a hidden cottage in the nearby Gallowshill Woods to keep her from drawing unwanted muggle attention, where she was home-schooled and allowed only to play with a few older children from other nearby wizarding families. Rua proved to be a very curious child who loved learning from both books and the from the world around her.
As Rua got older, she developed a strong curiosity of what was in the woods of Gallowshill, a curiosity which grew stronger as she heard tales of banshees and fairies and other things that supposedly lived within. She wandered deeper and deeper into the woods, and soon her parents forbade her to play in them. However, Rua did not listen, and would frequently sneak into the woods. When she was 7 years old, Rua came across the fugitive witch, Kel Rundamair, who used the forest as one of her hiding places from the Ministry of Magic. The naive Rua befriended Kel, and Kel, believing Rua to have great potential for dark magic, took an unhealthy interest in the child. On Rua's eighth birthday, Kel "adopted" (read: kidnapped) young Rua, and took her to a new hiding place in Germany's Black Forest.
Kel tried to train young Rua in witchcraft almost immediately, despite the generally accepted knowledge that children younger than 11 could not safely control such power. After a couple disasters that nearly scared Rua away from using magic entirely, Kel eventually accepted that Rua was too young. She instead worked to keep Rua fascinated in the power of magic, and instead taught her theory (in the form of stories) and had Rua assist her in her black rituals and research for three years, doing what she could to give the girl a jump-start in her training in the dark arts. Rua learned what she was taught surprisingly well, and made a very clever and useful assistant to Kel during these years.
On Rua's eleventh birthday, Kel took her to the wand-maker Gregorovitch, who matched Rua with a hard 13-inch hawthorn wand with a dragon-heartstring core. Kel then began tutoring Rua in the ways of magic, teaching Rua all the basics (but with a calling in the dark arts in mind). Rua had come to want Kel's approval more than anything, and that, combined with her natural hunger for knowledge, spurred her on to learn as much as she could regardless of the danger. Rua proved to be a serious studier and a fast learner, and indeed showed a talent with jinxes, hexes, and curses that Kel found encouraging.
When Rua was 13, Kel was about to begin her training in truly dark magic, but fate intervened. Aurors finally found Kel, and when they attempted to capture her, Kel engaged them in a deadly dual that forced the aurors to kill her. Rua was brought back to her father after five years of absence (her mother having died in the interim), but the man seemed to have mixed feelings about being reunited with his daughter after having lost his wife.
Rua's father determined that she had learned some magic, but grossly misjudged how much since Rua did her best to hide anything she'd learned that could be connected to the dark arts even a bit. He arranged for 13-year-old Rua to transfer to Hogwarts as a second-year student (thinking she'd fallen behind), and in her first year it seemed like even that might be too much for her. Struggling with recent traumatic experiences and hiding much of what she learned out of fear she would be killed like Kel, Rua fared poorly in her early classes and mostly shunned the other students. The head of her house eventually figured out that Rua had much more potential and arranged for her to receive regular counseling with witches who were good at that sort of thing.
By the end of her fourth year, Rua had shown marked improvement and performed exceptionally in all her classes, especially in Defense against the Dark Arts, Charms, and Potions. She still showed little interest in socializing with her peers, preferring to devote herself to studying or locking herself somewhere private where she could talk to the "ghost" of Kel. She also took a strong interest in the other ghosts of Hogwarts around this time, socializing with them more than the living, it seemed. It was this year that she learned to summon her patronus, and it is a charm she has practiced incessantly ever since.
Rua, now beginning her 6th year, is a mostly normal student, albeit an anti-social one with an unhealthy interest in ghosts (and secretly in the dark arts). She managed to get O's in all of her OWLs last year, but has tried to let as few people know about that as possible.

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: Rua can be exceptionally brave in some ways, but not in the reckless way that Gryffindor's tend to be. She has no interest in heroics or chivalry.
Hufflepuff: Rua is hard-working, but that seems to be the only Hufflepuff quality she has. She is not friendly and is prone to keeping secrets, and would be a rather dark cloud amongst the otherwise cheery Hufflepuffs.
Ravenclaw: Rua is an avid learner, and definitely has the wisdom, wit, and intellect of a Ravenclaw. Rua loves things that make her think, and the one type of person she gets along with at least somewhat are deep-thinkers.
Slytherin: Having originally been trained by a dark witch, having a secret interest in dark magic, and being a pureblood are all reasons Rua may be sorted as a Slytherin. However, Rua is not ambitious, nor shrewd, and she is certainly not a strong leader.

Sample Journal Entry:
It looks like another year is about to begin...
I glanced over some of the other journal entries others have been making, and all the whining about summer being over? Wasted ink. Honestly, I'd rather read Hufflepuff love poems. Did anyone learn anything useful during the summer? Any new spells researched? I'd love to hear some news of that sort...
Anyways, I'm off to see if there are any new ghosts in the school. I'll check back later.

OH, AND NEW STUDENTS, I'm Rua. Don't bother me with any stupid questions, alright? Especially not while I'm reading.

Sample Interaction Post:
Rua crept back to her room late at night, a large musty book carried under her arm. Back in her bed, she lays it out and magically lights a small floating candle. Reading the words, she mutters to herself,
"Tenebris magicae... fortissima est... clarissima luce..."
She then looks about suddenly, and whispers more conversationally... to empty air.
"Yes, I know what I'm doing. I had the best teacher, didn't I? Not my fault you couldn't stick around... I have to find books like this on my own."
Rua pauses, as if listening to a return reply. "No they don't let students check out books like this! Why do you think I made such a trip in the cover of darkness? I-"
She pauses, and suddenly looks frightened. "Did you hear that?" she says in a lower whisper. Rua, now tense, hides the book in a special satchel of her own enchantments, blows out the candle, and pretends to be asleep.

How did you hear about us?: :V

Character Information
Name: Vashti Middens
School Year: First
Gender: female
Age: 11
Out of school living location: Penrith, Cumbria, England
Blood status: Halfblood through a paternal grandparent (is a half vampire)

Personality:
Vashti is a fun-loving child. She likes to find the playful aspect in things. She sees her father's potions equipment largely as toys. She hasn't lost this view, despite--or perhaps even because of--lessons on potion making. She sees necromancy mainly as a way of making unusual toys and/or pets (she hasn't made up her mind on what the reanimated corpses count as). And because of her (limited) experience with necromancy, she isn't squicked by dead things. Sure, sometimes the stench or the maggots can be gross, but those can be dealt with; and then you have prime toy/pet-making material!

She won't back down from a fight. She doesn't try to pick fights, but she's not always the most careful about how she phrases things. She's usually a fairly straightforward person, and speaks her mind. She can be stubborn, though she is capable of taking direction.

She's also more than capable of giving direction. In activities that call for some sort of organization, she will step up and provide it. She doesn't particularly enjoy or dislike being in charge; she just likes to keep activities running smoothly, and sometimes she has to take charge to get that accomplished.

She values fairness. She tries to be fair to others, and behaves as if she will be treated fairly in return. She doesn't necessarily expect fair treatment, however. She tries to remain optimistic about people (unless they've already proven their untrustworthiness), but she realizes that people aren't always, well, fair. Moreover, there are some rules that she understands being punished for breaking--as they are rules--but she doesn't accept that punishment as just. Some rules are silly in her mind.

She will stand up for others if she believes they're being treated unjustly and need help. She doesn't consciously recognize this fact about herself, largely because of the caveat 'and need help'. If she thinks they're capable of handling the situation themselves, she doesn't feel any particular obligation to insert herself into their problem.

She's a daddy's girl. She looks up to her dad a lot and enjoys doing stuff with him, whether it be reading a children's book or performing experiments on dead animals. The fact that Daddy happens to be a vampire has left her with very inclusive views on beinghood, and something of a lack of a healthy sense of fear towards some of the more dangerous sorts. She is pretty fearless in general. She also has a very strong liking for blood lollipops, but she's sure that's unrelated to anything.

She is loyal, and good at keeping secrets. Once again, this is in large part due to her father. She loves him, and keeping his secrets keeps him safe. She applies the same logic towards anyone she deems a friend. However, she has also learned that one must use some discretion in who one considers a friend. She doesn't consider everyone she's friendly with to automatically be a 'friend'. She currently has some conflicted feelings towards her half-brother. He's family, so he should automatically get loyalty, right? ...Only, she doesn't trust him.

While one would have to earn her trust to get bumped up to 'real friend', Vashti is quite friendly. She enjoys the company of others and is sociable.

She enjoys learning new things. She doesn't necessarily enjoy continuing to study after learning the basic details of something, though. The thing itself has to be fun for her to want to keep pursuing knowledge of it.

Original Background:
Pooting. Vashti's parents never married, and it was no secret her father Dren had more than one girlfriend. He didn't live with the Middens, but he visited often. They never visited him because he didn't stay in any one place very long. Vashti never really thought it was a terribly unusual arrangement. Or that it was strange her father had to drink a potion to go out in the sun. She did think it was a bit odd all the neat equipment he kept in their basement had to be kept a secret from the neighbors.

When a young child, Vashti sometimes played with her father's potion making setup in the basement. She wasn't supposed to, of course; she did it anyway. A mishap one day left her with green hair. Her mother was upset, but Dren assured her the effect would most likely wear off quickly, and definitely grow out at the very least. When neither happened he was very apologetic. Vashti liked her new hair color though, and eventually convinced her mother Sarah to stop dyeing over it. She didn't really care if she was now seen as the neighborhood's "weird child". Her new hair was awesome.

She and her parents came to an agreement though: Dren would teach her a little something of how potion making really worked, as long as she only used the equipment when he was watching. If she didn't abide by the agreement, the lessons would stop.

It wasn't until she was about eight that her parents finally explained what Dren was--namely, a wizard. Only not really because the wizarding world didn't count vampires as wizards anymore. And then Dren launched into an in-depth discussion of politics that only confused Vashti. Sarah had to interrupt and give the short version: Dren was a vampire who could do magic. He was an potions maker by trade. And he moved around a lot because... well, partly because vampires tended not to be very popular as neighbors, even the nicer ones.

But mostly it was because Dren dabbled in necromancy. Vashti caught him one night (after she'd been woken up by a bad dream), reanimating a squirrel skeleton in the basement. She wasn't upset, as she might have been had she been raised to recognize and fear the dark arts; she just wanted to play with the cool bony thing. Dren was amused and decided to let her in on some of his experiments, if she promised to keep them a secret. He explained that he felt what he was doing was harmless, but that it was technically illegal and he could get in trouble if he was caught. So she began to learn a little something of the dark arts as well.

Her life was interrupted one evening by the sudden arrival of a half brother she knew nothing about. Dren had brought another one of his kids, Valor, to live with the Middens after the boy's mother died. His mother had been a pureblood with extensive family ties, but she had been estranged from them because of her relationship with Dren. Moreover, Valor was a squib. Her family didn't want him.

Valor and his mum disliked Dren. His mother had disliked Dren because she blamed him for her family's estrangement. She had been in love with him at the time and chose him over them willingly; but she had fallen out of love after a while, and later began to suspect he had used glamour on her to make her think she was in love with him in the first place. She had also blamed him for Valor's squibness. Her bloodline was pure. The failure to produce a magical child was clearly the fault of Dren's vampiric nature.

Valor disliked Dren mainly because his mother had. To be fair, Dren hadn't been around much either. Dren disliked conflict, and conflict is something that's hard to avoid with an ex-girlfriend who hates you. His relationship with Valor suffered for it.

Vashti wanted to like her half brother. She finally had someone her own age who she could talk to about magic and Dren. But Valor's attitude towards Dren worried her. She was afraid he might find out about their father's experiments and report him to... somebody? She wasn't sure who one would report such a thing to. She also found it hard to like someone who, she felt, was being so unfair to his own father.

Valor finally started to settle in and show a pleasanter side (though he still had a chip on his shoulder towards Dren) after he'd been with the Middens for about a year. He and his half sister struck up a tentative friendship, and discovered they actually had a lot in common. Then he threw a rather unattractive fit when Vashti got her letter. He really didn't think it was fair that the one with the muggle mother got to go to Hogwarts while he couldn't.

By the time Vashti left for school, they were on bad terms again. It cast a shadow for her over an otherwise exciting development. Dragon.

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor: Vashti is pretty fearless. It's not always easy to tell whether this is actual bravery or simply overconfidence, however. She does have a chivalrous streak. It's not very apparent at first inspection, even to her, but it is there. She will stick her neck out for people if she thinks they need her help. Gryffindor could be a good fit.

Hufflepuff: She is very loyal to her family and friends (though she isn't always quick to consider someone she likes a full-fledged friend). She values fairness in decisions and actions, even if she doesn't always see the need to abide strictly by the rules. She makes an effort to obey the rules she thinks are fair, though. This house is also a good match for her.

Ravenclaw: She is intelligent and somewhat creative. She tries her best to be logical. She enjoys learning, but in moderation. She prefers activity over reading. She has her moments, but isn't particularly witty. Ravenclaw isn't as good a fit for her as Gryffindor or Hufflepuff.

Slytherin: She takes charge in activities requiring direction. That isn't to say she's bossy--she just likes to keep things organized, and people tend to listen to her. She is ambitious only in a very vague way. She knows she wants to do something important someday, but she's still not quite sure what and she's in no real hurry to figure it out. She's not particularly cunning, and prefers to take a straightforward approach. She is very good at keeping secrets though.

Character Information
Name: Kankri Vantas
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Ghost
Suitability: he’s dead. c:
Gender: Male
Age: 33 (looks 15)
Out of school living location: Hogwarts
Blood status: muggleborn

Personality:
Kankri Vantas is a very independent boy. He feels the need to take care of himself and not accept help from anyone. In canon, this is a holdover from the Beforan ideal of “culling.” On Beforus, being off-spectrum would have meant that he was taken in by a troll of a higher caste and practically infantilized. His independence, therefore, comes from a need to individualize his identity, to make himself known. In SH, this comes from a need to separate his identity from that of his twin brother, Salvador.

In a similar vein, Kankri cannot stand being babied. In canon on Beforus, being coddled would have been indicative of his adherence to the problematic nature of the hemospectrum. He reacts almost violently, in canon, when Porrim does something as seemingly innocuous as move to wipe grubsauce from his face. In SH, he never disdained authority figures, but he wasn’t the blank slate most professors expected students to be. In fact, he debated with his professors as intensely if not moreso than he did with his peers. He, while he was alive, was disdainful of being tended to. He wouldn’t let anyone take care of him, not even the woman that Salvador adopted as a foster mother. He was eager to differentiate himself from his peers and from his brother, and he expressed this by trying to act more “grown up.”

In many ways, Kankri could easily have ended up being Sorted into Ravenclaw. He is certainly clever, and also quite heavily invested in his studies. His vocabulary and general attitude are almost snobbishly intelligent. He is quite smart, although he lacks anything resembling common sense. He wrote long-winded diatribes for fun, and shared them with anyone who would stand still long enough to listen. As a ghost, now, he has matured somewhat over the past 17 years. It was less of a maturation, however, and more of a necessity brought on by his prolonged silence and hiding. Now that he is once more free to go among the living and interact with them, you can bet that he will have plenty to say.

Part and parcel with his intelligence and independence is a haughtiness or self-righteousness that comes with such teenage hubris. He believes that he is the be-all end-all of any debate, and that anyone who argues with or disagrees with him needs to be debated until they relent and admit that they’re wrong. This self-righteous behaviour comes from the type of Tumblr user that he in canon is meant to make fun of, the Social Justice Warrior. On his pet subjects, he believes that he is simply the best there is. Not only is there a way to win an argument, but Kankri will find it by any means necessary. Usually, what actually happens is that his partner gets sick of his circuitous, rambling tl;dr and just walks away. This kind of behavior is what earned him the nickname “The Insufferable” in both canon and in SH.

While he was alive, his pet topics included blood purity, rights and equality for all Beings, and the recognition of the service of house elves. After his death, blood purity remained a touchy subject, but instead of the others he is obsessed with the acknowledgment and respect of ghosts as sentient beings. They are the remnants of the consciousness of once-living witches and wizards, damned to a half-life without hope of moving on, and as such deserve the respect that they would have been afforded were they still in possession of living bodies.

Going along with the Social Justice Warrior stereotype, Kankri is ultimately well-intentioned in his essays and diatribes. He wants to educate others on his own enlightened opinion, he is just oblivious as to how much he can come across as a sanctimonious asshole at times. He means well enough. It’s important to note that he is not a satire of the “die cis scum” SJW. His language and tone come across as ultimately respectful, overall, and indeed most of the reason why he is so long-winded and exhausting to talk to is because he goes so far not to step on anyone’s toes with his rambling. Another sign of his good intentions (and also a trademark of the type of SJW that he is meant to parody) are the trigger warnings that he uses and abuses. He warns not only for all potential triggers, but also many things that wouldn’t normally be considered triggering in the slightest. He makes up new, politically-correct terms to replace words he considers “pr96lematic,” which in SH takes the form of terms like “living-impaired,” “anat9mically disp9ssessed,” “c9rp9really limited,” “afterlife challenged,” or “transc9rp9real.”

While he doesn’t intend to offend anyone, he ultimately has an ego himself, and it blinds him to how his Social Justice whiteknighting can be at least as problematic, if not moreso, than the behaviour of those he is trying to educate. This comes out in how he will ask his debate partner about their triggers in advance and make it clear that if they become triggered, he will stop and make every effort to accommodate them, but if the trigger in question is related to an important point of his debate, he won’t drop it entirely but will just make an effort to tiptoe around the subject and help them through the discussion. He has less empathy than he believes he does, which doesn’t, of course, make him a bad person. If anything, it just makes him a normal, flawed teenage boy. The problems arise because he believes himself to be much more than that. He is incredibly self-absorbed (again, like most teenagers, let alone teenage boys), and he believes that what he has to say is what is in everyone’s best interest.

In SH, he will be younger than his canon counterpart by about 4 years. This doesn’t necessarily mean much for his SH portrayal vs. canon, because in SH he has also been a ghost for the past 17 years, and in that time has done a lot of observing and interacting with his fellow ghosts. He’s also had plenty of time to develop new opinions and become even more insufferable than before.

It’s also important to bring attention to the fact that although they are biologically the same person, Kankri is not the same person as the Signless. Kankri is a socially impotent armchair crusader, essentially, which is excusable given that he is approximately 19 years old, 6 of which the players spent in an unwinnable session chasing their own tails. He tried to be the spiritual leader of his friends, but the major thing that he really lacks is genuine conviction. He could stand around pointing out all of the problems inherent in the system, but other than telling people what not to do or say, there was no real change he could affect. Signless, on the other hand, preserved some of his Seer powers post-Scratch, and he remembered slices of Beforus, which seemed like utopia in comparison to Alternia.

Canon Background:
Like literally every other Sburb/Sgrub player in Homestuck, Kankri was a meteor baby. He was one of the first group of players of Sgrub, the pre-Scratch troll session. Very little is known about Beforus, the planet that was known in the post-Scratch universe as Alternia, but they had an interesting take on the idea of “culling”. On Alternia, as well as Beforus, those who were off-spectrum as well as lowbloods were culled. However, on Beforus, to be culled meant that you were taken under the guardianship of a highblood and tended to until the end of your shorter lifespan.

Kankri, being a mutantblood and making no real secret of it (he types in #FF0000, and wears a bright red sweater), would have also been taken in by this culture, which is one idea of where his prohibitively verbose social justice loquaciousness comes from. Being “culled” on Beforus, he would have been infantilized and looked down on as little more than a senseless child, no matter how old he really was. His social justice whiteknighting, therefore, can be read as a cry for attention.

Kankri was the Seer of Blood for his session of Sgrub, although it is implied that he never realized his full potential and, thus, never went god tier during the game. Seers, however, are a passive class, good at strategizing, and it has been speculated that the aspect of Blood could represent people or the populace, therefore making the realization of his power to be the ability to foresee how individuals would act in each of different opportunities, and guide situations to suit the best possible outcome.

He appointed himself the “spiritual leader” of the game, and attempted to spread his social justice doctrines among his fellow players and unite them under his philosophies. He also may have had an unrequited crush on the Pyrope of his session, Latula.

Eventually, the pre-Scratch trolls realized that theirs was a dead-end session, but they sat around and did nothing for three sweeps before making the decision to Scratch the session and start over. Since, they have been floating around in dreambubbles and watching the post-Scratch Alternia and its session unfold as it would. Kankri in particular appreciated the message of his post-Scratch incarnation, the Signless, but he found the means by which the Signless spread his message to be “pr96lematic” at best.

His typing quirk is to replace all “o”s with 9s and all “b”s with 6s, in obvious reference to the manacles that bound the Signless to the flogging jut, and also to the cancer symbol which was supposedly derived from said manacles by the devout followers of the Sufferer (much like Christians adopting the cross as their symbol). However, it’s unknown why this is his quirk. Perhaps there was more that he admired about his Post-Scratch incarnation than he lets on, or perhaps the Cancer symbol existed in the pre-Scratch universe in some form as well (although that is less likely, given that Aranea wears a Sufferer pendant and it is implicitly stated that she wears it out of admiration for the Signless’ teachings).

The first time that we meet Kankri is at the beginning of Act 6 Intermission 3. He is seen having cornered Karkat for presumably quite some time now, in the Derse/Prospit clusterfuck dreambubble section of the game. He talks so much that even the normally verbose Karkat has been struck dumb, although that may also have something to do with the mysterious pull that dancestors are implied to have over their post-Scratch counterparts (see: Kanaya being terrified of Porrim). Playing as Meenah (since it’s an interactive flash), you can eavesdrop on the “conversation” between Kankri and Karkat, which consists of reading a lot of bright red text.

There is also the option to “Be Kankri”, but when it is selected as Meenah, he brushes you off with the explanation that he is quite busy lecturing – debating with Karkat right now. If you go through the flash and “Be” Porrim, you can go back and actually talk to Kankri, prompting an argument between the two where Kankri gets quite sassy with her, poking at her concupiscent vacillations and essentially calling her the troll equivalent of a whore. Her concerns about female rights are brushed off in lieu of Kankri’s desire to focus on more “important” topics, which basically means topics that he is actually interested in.

Once again, the option to “Be Kankri” comes up, but once again he turns you away, this time with the suggestion that you try again with someone “a little radder”. This prompts the player to go “be” Latula, and then come back and talk to him. This time, his interaction is completely changed. He is not nearly as self-assured as he was when he was talking to Porrim or Meenah, and he seems totally off his game. This supports the idea that he might have had an unrequited crush on her that both his vow of chastity and her relationship with Mituna Captor prevented. When Latula requests to “Be Kankri,” he blusters and tries to argue for a moment, before finally relenting and letting player control switch to him.

At this point, the player can walk around as the red-sweatered little bitch, and may be tempted to see if it’s programmed so that you can throw him off of the Prospit towers. Such is, unfortunately, not the case, but you can go talk to Porrim again. Upon doing so, Kankri immediately launches into a self-righteous spiel about how rude it was for her to interrupt him while he was speaking with his “disciple”, and he becomes increasingly snippy with her. He outright explodes when she begins to mother him, snarling at her and wiping the grubsauce off of his face on his own because he’s a big boy and can do so.

After talking to Porrim, there’s little else to do with Kankri besides switch player control back to Meenah, after which Kankri becomes irrelevant to the rest of the flash.

Canon OC | Kankri Vantas | Homestuck

[personal profile] resplendentri 2012-09-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)

Background (AU!Canon; HP): Pooting
Kankri Menachem Vantas was born on June 20, 1979, a few minutes ahead of his twin brother, Salvador. The bond between the two identical boys was a strong one. They spent a lot of time together. They were infinitely closer to one another than they were to their older brother Armand, by simple virtue of the fact that he was 12 years their elder.

Early on, however, it became obvious that there was something different about Salvador and Kankri. Aside from the normal twin things, like inventing their own little language, strange things began happening around them. When they turned 11, a man came to their house and explained to Mr. and Mrs. Vantas that their youngest boys were wizards, and invited to attend a special academy to train their talents.

A few months later, they were on the Hogwarts Express and on their way to Hogwarts. Their first year was particularly difficult for them to adjust. They clung to one another, two identical faces in a sea of unfamiliar culture. By the end of the year, however, they had both thrown themselves wholeheartedly into what they did best – Kankri into his studies, and Salvador into making friends. By their second year, everyone could tell them apart as soon as they opened their mouths.

It gradually became more and more obvious that Kankri was fundamentally not good with people. He would talk nonstop at anyone who would listen for long enough to let him start, and he vocally shared his opinions, no matter how unpopular, with everyone he met. He was that kid who would remind the professors about assigned homework. Unlike his twin, who was almost universally liked, Kankri was seen as a nuisance at best. He earned himself the nickname “The Insufferable”, and it almost seemed like he wore it with pride. Salvador did his best to drag him out on occasion, to spend time with him and his friends, but the only time that this was guaranteed to succeed was on Hogsmeade weekends. No matter how hard he tried, Kankri could never help but feel like Sal was the only one who wanted him there.

And he wasn’t entirely wrong. In class and out, hushed whispers of “Insufferable Vantas” followed him. His peers brushed off his arguments, told him to shut up, keep quiet, sit down. Incensed and brimming with injustice, he took to writing his arguments down in the one place where no one could escape them: the journals. He filled page after page with bright red words that no one wanted to read.

When the two boys were able to pick electives after 2nd year, Kankri went into Divination along with Sal. Unlike Sal, however, he actually took the class seriously (or, about as seriously as you can take Divination). Not only did it quickly become his best class, not only did he launch himself into a position of esteem in the professor’s eyes, but it awakened a hidden talent. The Divination professor was maybe even a little jealous – never before had there been such a young muggleborn with such a strong Inner Eye.

The first time that he actually made a prophecy was in the middle of class one day, when he seemingly dozed off in class and then began speaking in an altered voice. The prophecy itself was nothing earth-shaking, but the testament to the power of Kankri’s Inner Eye was more than enough to make up for it. When he came to afterward, he didn’t remember what had happened, but from that day on he was the Divination professor’s protégé. He spent about a year and a half under her wing. In that time, he didn’t have any other visions, but when he was at home he took to carrying a tape recorder around with him, so that if he did then he or Sal or someone else could press record before he slipped under.

In the summer of 1994, while Sal was visiting Art and Di, Kankri slipped into a second vision. When the unnatural, lightheaded sleepiness came over him, too strong to fight, he pressed record on the tape recorder, just in case.

When he woke up afterward, he rewound the tape and played it back. He heard a voice that was barely recognizable as his own, saying words he didn’t remember saying.
Flowers of summer from the same stem sprung
friend becomes foe, one must fall upon the wand
that the other may flourish and grow
a brother's sacrifice to keep him safe

He owled his Divination professor immediately, but she was about as helpful as you could imagine. When Sal returned Kankri decided that Sal didn’t need to know about the prophecy. At least, not until he had a better idea of what it meant. Not until he’d ruled out everything but the worst possible solution.

When they returned to school in the fall, there was something different about Kankri. It was as if he was going through the motions. It was hard to be excited about anything when he knew with almost certainty that either he or Salvador would be dead by the end of the year.

Still, the moment didn’t come until April. He and Sal were in duelling club together. When he was called to partner up, he was paired with the only other student aside from his brother who he really considered a friend. Sal grabbed Kankri by the sleeve and begged him not to do it. He admitted that he had had a dream. Kankri knew then that this was the final moment. He smiled, and reassured his twin that he would be fine. And then he stood up against his friend and prepared to duel.

He gave it his all, fought as hard as he could, but then a spell slipped past his guard and knocked him out. At first, no one believed that he was really hurt. As the seconds ticked by and he still lay there deathly still, the first one to realize that something was wrong was Salvador. He ran to his twin’s side, but by then it was practically too late. None of the efforts to revive him worked. For three days, he lay in the hospital wing in a coma. Physically, he was fine. Had he woken up, he would have been well enough to go to class the next day. But his mind and spirit drifted free of his body, no matter how hard he fought to return. Finally, on the third day, Kankri died.

On the fourth day, he woke up again, cold and alone. Not entirely alone. The headmaster was there, smiling benignly, a sad twinkle in his blue eyes. It didn’t take a genius to realize what had happened: Kankri was a ghost. The old wizard returned his journal to him and explained Kankri’s options. He could either reveal himself to his brother, or he could hide from him.

For Salvador’s own good, Kankri decided to hide. It hurt him, as close to physically as he could still hurt, to watch his brother grow up without him. He shadowed him faithfully, a part of him hoping that maybe he could lessen the hurt, that maybe Sal would know that he was watching over him. On his brother’s wedding day, it was all he could do not to go forward and stand in the space among the groomsmen that he knew was meant for him.

But as the years passed, the silence became easier and easier to maintain. He idled his hours with the other ghosts, but there were a few years where he wasn’t afraid to be seen by the students, either, when everyone who saw him die, who knew his name had graduated. Those years slipped away all too fast. Before he knew it, it had been 14 years since his death, and he was shocked to see two painfully familiar-looking young little kids among the first years. Vantas, Karkat! was called out to be Sorted, and Kankri hid himself immediately, straining his ears to hear what house his flesh and blood was sorted into. The pride he felt when he heard the Sorting Hat cry out Gryffindor! was the warmest that he’d felt since he died. Vantas-Leijon, Nepeta! came next, and into Hufflepuff she went, like her mother before her.

From that moment on, Kankri went into the same diligent hiding that he had fallen into while Salvador was still at school. He watched his nephew and niece from the shadows, but he could not allow them to see him. Not when word could get back to Salvador. Even though Salvador had moved on, even though he was a grown man with children, Kankri was afraid of the reaction should his twin find out that he had hidden from him for 17 years. So he hid. And he waited.

And then Salvador himself came to the school to teach, and he was appointed Head of Gryffindor House. It was no use hiding anymore. With patient reassurance from Dumbledore, and from his fellow ghosts (Sir Nicholas in particular encouraged him to reveal himself), he made the decision to come forward of his own accord, and reveal himself to his brother before Salvador found out from someone else.

[personal profile] litwick 2012-09-15 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Salman is an ambitious young man who never lets an opportunity to shine and succeed go to waste. He has a talent for making friends who benefit his own goals and further his ambitions (In canon, India wants to be friends with Russia because of economic opportunity.). That doesn't mean he is a bad friend, as he is very loyal, friendly, and kind. Once you are friends with him, he likes knowing your business, but he swears he won't tell anyone your secrets and get in your way. He has a habit of fondly teasing his friends, but it's all for fun and seen as rather playful. Sometimes he doesn't even realize he's embarrassing someone as he thinks his approach to things is the best and most efficient. He finds people most would call intolerable endearing, even cute (See Prussia and India during the Halloween Event.). Why Salman finds certain people endearing is a still a mystery, but it has caused him to gain friendships with some rather unique people. While friendly to most people, he only keeps a very close to him. When you become a close friend of his, he will be very loyal and help you anyway he can. Even if a friend betrays him, he believes strongly in forgiveness. It's not that he is a doormat, but he strongly believes forgiveness, compassion, and learning to become stronger through hardship.

Salman has a competitive edge to him (In canon, it is noted he is noted to compete with China.) always trying to be the best at his classes and activities. He is particularly good in Arithmancy, and has a fondness for Muggle Studies even though he isn't muggle born. He's always an exemplary student, and he does actually work hard in order to obtain his grades. Salman also likes to have fun, and with that he can very over the top. When he does something like an activity, party, etc. he goes all out (In the Halloween Event '11 he hires dancers to enter with him.) . He loves large, hectic but exciting experiences and always make a grand entrance when he needs to make a good first impression. He often says Namaste when greeting people, too (As seen in his canon appearances.). He is always well dressed, some saying he has a princely look to him (As stated in his canon profile.). Most of the time he is happy and tries not to get worked up or stressed out. Only rarely does he not look happy, and there are times where he puts a smile on his face even when he is upset. Salman likes doing things his way, and some may consider him stubborn. It's not that he's exactly stubborn, but he thinks his approach is the best for him; he is comfortable with himself and is proud of who he is (His officially profile in Hetalia states he likes doing things his way.). He also can be very persuasive, not giving up easily, especially if he wants something. He can be sneaky when he wants something, too, but he does try to be honorable for the most part.

Salman also has a great interest in Bollywood movies and music (In canon the author links him to Bollywood movies.). He has liked it ever since he was little and it has helped him relate to his former homeland and family. He also likes writing movie scripts, mostly about romance and epic adventures. Salman enjoys mentoring and helping those younger than him, telling them about Indian movies, music, and food. He is very proud of his Indian background, and he likes meeting other Indian student in Hogwarts. He also enjoys exotic animals (In canon he is a part of the "Elephant Club" and appears with his elephant.), magical or not, and he loves telling people about his pets back home in England and those living in India with his relatives. He is not to opposed to riding on large, dangerous animals nor handling them.

Character Information
Name: Henry Yates
School Year: 6th
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Out of school living location: Lyon, France and Birmingham, England.
Blood status: Muggleborn

Personality: Henry isn’t the friendliest of people. Or rather, it’s not so much that he’s unfriendly, it’s more like he comes across as... Detached. A lot of his interactions with people he has little familiarity with cam come across as if he’s more of an observer than a participant. In more straightforward terms, he rarely actively engages someone, keeping himself withdrawn, formal, and almost coming out like he was simply passing by and felt a need to make a comment on the current situation. Which isn’t always a completely inaccurate conclusion. His body language reflects this, with him often crossing his arms, or at least moving as little possible, simply leaning against some nearby wall, or sitting down if possible.

Should someone come to him and engaged him in a way that require his involvement though, he’s actually quite willing to engage the person with just as much enthusiasm. He’s more talkative and starts using more casual speech. His body language changes as well, with him becoming far more expressive, to the point of even talking with his hands some. Any furhter interactions he has with someone that pings him like that is guaranteed to not be quite as detached and formal as with others, although not always at the same level. Depending on factors such as context, his mood, and even the way the conversation is going, he will slip into a more or less formal speech pattern. Familiarity also earns much of the same behaviour as the above, although in a far more consistent way.

Another aspect of his personality is how versatile he is. He’s shown a knack for adapting to different situations and to always focus on trying to make the best of every situation he’s in. Part of this can be attributed to his upbringing; he’s certainly had his life changed in rather big ways, and has been able to take them relatively in stride, and even thrive under them. Another reason for this ability of his, is because in the end, he’s an optimist. As subdued as he may be in his optimist most of the time, ultimately, he’ll always believe that everything will work out in the end, and he’s bound to express that, even if not always explicitly.

Should his predictions fail though, another aspect of his personality will come out: guilt. And not just in situations where his optimism fails, too. Guilt isn’t something Henry takes to very well, or lets go easily, sometimes to extremes. He still feels a lingering sense of guilt for the strain on his parent’s relationship when it came up that he was a wizard, for instance. If he feels he’s wronged, disappointed someone, or failed to live up his word, even if it was due to circumstances beyond his control, for which nobody would blame him, he’s bound to hold some guilt over it, and feel the need to make it up to them somehow. How, he’s never quite sure, but he’ll be racking his brains trying to figure out something that could work until he finally does. If he doesn’t, he’ll outright ask, how awkward or inconvenient it may be be damned.

At his core, though, Henry is still an introvert. He’s not one to go out of his way to make friends with everyone he meets, or being anything resembling the life of a party or even a group he’s in. He’s far more likely to be the quieter one, that doesn’t speak as much as everyone else, maybe even with his own smaller subgroup, slightly apart, but still a member. As a result, he’s by far a follower, not a leader. He very much prefers to help someone improve their plan, rather than come up with one of his own. He may try to take lead if it’s just him and someone else that’s unwilling to lead, but the truth is, he’ll have no idea what he’s doing, and isn’t likely to get much accomplished. Leadership qualities don’t come naturally to him at all. Somewhat at odds with this, he does fairly well in situations where he has to work together with someone, being actually quite adept at brainstorming for something, even if he’ll never take it upon himself to make the final decision.

Another thing about Henry is that as hard as he can be on himself,he’s actually very forgiving. He’s often very much open to giving someone a second chance, and grudges are a rare thing for him to hold. Likewise, he doesn’t get mad often, and even when he does get mad, it’s a very controlled anger, with no big screaming, or throwing things around, sometimes even avoiding harsh words. Even in those cases though, it’s still a very present emotion that he will not make an effort to hide. Colder interactions, glares, and outright ignoring the person in question are common manifestations of his anger.

In what’s likely a result of his forgiving nature, he’s a little naïve, sometimes taking things at face value simply because he has no real reason not to. This is especially likely with his friends, although at the same, the fact that knows them doesn’t let them get away with a lot of claims. In other ways, he’s more likely to act naïvely towards a friend, but at the same time, a stranger would be able to get away with something more outlandish than his friends would.

However, he never really expects people he calls friends to try to take advantage of him. If there’s one thing he has in spades, is faith and trust in his friends. Them and his family are the most important things in his life, as far as he’s concerned, and he’d do anything for them, and expect nothing but the same from them. He’s extremely loyal as well, and greatly values loyalty in his own friendships, to the point where he’ll sometimes butt in matters that aren’t really his concern if he feels his friends are breaking someone’s trust, or wronging someone unjustly.

Despite all this, however, he is not at all above enjoying some schadenfreude, especially if it involves a stranger, or someone he feels is deserving of their situation. He may keep his enjoyment to himself, but it’ll be there for sure.

Original Background: Pooting

Henry never met his biological father. According to what his mother told him (which wasn’t much, since she clearly didn’t want to go back to the topic), they met when she was 19, in some party a friend of hers had thrown. Apparently booze and drugs may have been involved, if her mumblings of “What was I smoking back then anyway?” are of any indication. She does swear it was consensual, even if she probably wouldn’t have slept with him if she had been sober.

Henry’s very early life was a little messy, as it’s bound to be for a single mother that’s trying to make it through university. Family support only went so far when they all live relatively far from each other. Still, Henry’s mother managed, and was able to graduate and secure a decent life for herself and Henry. When Henry was four, he and his mother moved to France, which led to another rough period as both adjusted to the new country, moreso for Henry who had to learn a whole new language in order to communicate. But again, the two managed, and soon enough, life continued uneventfully for the two.

Three years into their life in France, when Henry was seven, his mother met a man. They fell in love, and although his mother was hesitant to take things very far out of concern of how Henry would take such a change in his life, two years later they got married. Henry himself adapted to the situation pretty well, and was able to develop a pretty good relationship with his stepdad. Soon enough, Henry’s mother announced that she was pregnant. This was the event that seemed to phase Henry the most, but in a good way. The prospect of a sibling seemed to excite him immensely, and the months before his little brother’s birth were the ones where he was at his most hyper and giddy.

When said little brother was actually born, Henry was a little disillusioned, since babies are boring and noisy and stinky when they’re newborns, but as the infant grew and was able to interact with Henry more, his enthusiasm grew back.

And then his letter for Beauxbatons came when he was 11. It was by far the biggest curveball that had ever been thrown at that family. Questions were raised, arguments were had, and then during a particularly loud and stressful argument, Henry’s magic manifested stronger than ever when he made the sofa of the living room explode when he screamed at his parents to stop fighting. Ironically, it allowed his parents to calm down enough to realize that figuring this out was more important than any other issues this could bring up for now. It also convinced his stepdad that he and his mother hadn’t been hiding anything from this this whole time, as the look of horror in both their faces could not have been faked.

And answers they got! That Muggleborns happen all the time, that Henry’s powers would be trained properly at Beauxbatons, and he’d be in perfectly good hands. And so, reluctantly, Henry was sent off to Beauxbatons. And once again, he was able to adapt to his new circumstances, pretty well too, some would say. As he’d been promised, he was far from the only one that had no idea he had magic, his classes were at heart like any other class he’d had before, and while the novelty of the boarding school aspect wore out quickly, his life far from boring there.

But that was his life for the following years. School at Beauxbatons, holidays at home, and he had come to be quite fond of his life as it was.

And then curiosity got the best of him, and on the summer of his fifth year, he asked his mother to tell him about his biological father. And reluctantly, he got his answers, and to say he didn’t liked it was an understatement. He certainly didn’t blame his mother for hiding it from him all those years. Still, there was a nagging in his mind that wanted to meet the man. So, during a trip to visit his grandparents in England, the search for his biological parent began. And said search took him to a jail, where the man was serving time.

The meeting wasn’t pleasant. The news that he had a son made the man go on a tirade about all the mistakes in his life, and how he’d “gotten enough shit from that other crazy bitch and the freak of a daughter” they had. This, more than anything picked Henry’s interest. As willing as he was to comply with the man’s request to stay away from him, a sister was a completely different matter. After more prodding, he got the name of said sister, and the most shocking truth of all: she was a witch. What followed was a lot of research into the magical world of the UK, and begging his parents to let him transfer to Hogwarts so he could meet his sister. Eventually, they relented, letting him stay with his grandparents during the smaller holidays.

And on September 1st, he boarded the Hogwarts Express, determined to find his sister... And to think of a way to tell her the truth.

Dragon

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor: Gryffindor wouldn’t be a bad house. He’s certainly brave enough, and chivalrous. However, he doesn’t have the bold, reckless personality usually associated with Gryffindors, and he certainly doesn’t have the leadership quality commonly expected of Gryffindors.

Hufflepuff: This is a good match for him. He certainly has the loyalty and love for his friends that is associated with Hufflepuff, being willing to sacrifice time and resources for a friend in need, sometimes even putting himself at a disadvantage in the process. He’s also a hard worker; despite not being a perfectionist, he appreciates the feeling of accomplishment of a work well done, and isn’t one to half-ass anything.

Ravenclaw: Another good fit! He’s intelligent and likes to learn, and it’s not at all unusual to see him with a book studying, even if he’s talking with someone at the time. He’s also fairly observant and picks up on things some people may miss at a first glance. There’s a certain amount of artistry in him as well, as he’s quite fond of playing the piano, although he has no intentions of ever dabbling in writing his own songs, and shies away from improvising.

Slytherin: Slytherin... Could potentially be a good House for him. He’s not exactly lacking in ambition and drive to pursue his goals, and he’s certainly resourceful when pushed to that. The big factor pulling him away from this House is that he’s not one to put himself above others at all times. While he can certainly be cunning, a lot of the time he chooses not to, because as far as he’s concerned, there’s more long term benefits of working with those around him than trampling over them on his way to the top.

Finished!

Name: Dolores Maryam (The Dolorosa)
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck

Teaching Position and why it suits them: Hospital wing nurse/Matron
Suitability: In her canon, the Dolorosa filled a nurturing role both in her duty to the mother grub as a jade-blooded troll and later towards the Signless/Sufferer as she raised him to adulthood rather than leaving him to die in the caverns, giving him a chance that he would have never had if left alone.

In terms of her personality and AU history, she views caring for others as her calling in life, possessing a motherly and patient personality which makes her an ideal nurse. She has her vampirism firmly under control, and takes a potion to control the Thirst religiously to ensure that she doesn’t become a danger to anyone around her.

[personal profile] blood_winged 2012-09-16 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
Personality: Dolores gives off an immediate, motherly vibe to most people who encounter her (a reflection of her canon-self's role as first a tender to the Mother Grub, and later to the abandoned troll grub that would become the Signless). It can be confusing to some, given her apparent young age, but almost every action she undertakes is one meant to shelter or guide, offering understanding and patience to anyone she feels requires it. She has a gentle manner, and if someone has need of a nurturing influence in their life she is very willing to step into that role, supplying reassurance and compassion to those who may not find such things elsewhere. A tactile woman, she gives comfort through unobtrusive physical contact and warm smiles, always ready with a helpful, kind word and is very free with her time, devoting much of it to the people she cares for. It is very possible for people to become irritated with what they might see as her meddling, but she rarely takes such things to heart.

She is a cheerful, personable woman, with a ready wit and a good sense of humour (though she will rarely go so far as to openly mock someone), as well as a sweet temper which inspires trust from those around her. Dolores takes everyone she meets at face value and never, at least outwardly, seems to think poorly of anyone. People have their secrets, as does she, and although they may one day trust her enough to reveal them she doesn’t believe that she has a right to know everything about those she considers to be her friends. Discrimination isn’t something that she looks kindly upon, and anyone displaying it in front of her will no doubt be met with a lecture, whether they want to listen or not. However, she does not hold grudges, advocating forgiveness in almost all situations. She is very difficult to offend, and sees anger as something which, if not properly utilised, does little more than rob a person of time they might be spending doing something more worthwhile (it can be presumed that, in her canon universe, she shared the ideals of equality and forgiveness that Signless advocated, and that as one of his close circle she encouraged him in these ideals).

One of the traits upon which she prides herself is her honesty, which will be complete so long as it is helpful and sincere. She is certainly not above lying, if it will help more than telling the truth will, but in the long run she would prefer to be truthful and not risk damage by keeping someone in the dark for longer than necessary. Even unpleasant, brutal truths need to be known, it’s simply a matter of finding the best way to reveal them. Despite this inclination towards truthfulness, however, she has been lying about her true age since the beginning of her employment at Hogwarts, feeling it necessary in order to not draw any undue suspicion to herself.

Not everything about her is sweetness and sunshine, however. Despite her so often speaking against it, she can be turned to anger if those she loves are threatened. She can hold many people in her heart and will protect them all fiercely, particularly those she views as her family. Being almost twice the age she appears to be certainly doesn’t dim the fire of her temper when it’s roused, and although she will almost invariably feel guilty about her outburst after the fact, she won’t hesitate in the heat of the moment to defend an innocent person from harm. Almost the entire staff, and certainly the entire student body of Hogwarts is subject to this protective instinct, and though some might say she’s overstretching herself, she sees this position as part of her calling in life, a way to redeem herself for the way she failed to save her own son.

She enjoys making gifts for people, even if they don’t realise that they mean that much to her, and Christmases and birthdays will often be met with something handmade from her. Knitting, she thinks, is a good way to pass the time between her duties as a nurse at the school and even if the recipient doesn’t like or appreciate what she’s made, she won’t take offence and will just find another use for it. Dolores also has quite a green thumb, and takes to nurturing plants as well as she nurtures people. As a vampire, she can’t ingest food or drink like a mortal would, but she does enjoy the occasional cup of chamomile tea despite it causing a small amount of discomfort – she’s not willing to fully give up on her humanity, and holds out hope that one day there will be a cure for her condition, or in the very least some way to relieve it to allow her and others like her to live a more normal life.

Her condition - drawn from the very likely fact (displayed in an image of the Rebels) that the Dolorosa became a rainbow drinker later in her life - keeps her from spending mealtimes in the Great Hall, not because she doesn’t eat, but because the sound of hundreds of hearts beating all at once is close to maddening. She is, however, a very social creature and will crave company if left in solitude for too long. The doors of the infirmary or her own quarters are always open to anyone who wishes to spend a bit of time with her, or those who just want to talk.

While her own life and prospects are now limited by her vampirism – something which she knows will become more of an issue as she ages – she wishes most fervently for the success of her family and those she cares for. She isn’t bitter about the way her life has gone, though she would change it if she could, and instead of seeing her lengthened years as a bad thing, she instead wants to use the time she has to help and guide the lives of as many people as she can. Certainly, she doesn’t relish the idea of watching the ones she loves grow up and die while she endures, but that is something she will need to come to terms with, and she knows this.

Dolores has command over herself, inasmuch as she doesn’t feel the need to tear out the throat of every being with a pulse that comes near her. Thanks to a potion that she takes to sate her thirst – though it doesn’t remove the need for blood – it is perfectly safe for her to hug people, and be around them in general. One of the things she fears most, far above her vampirism being exposed to the parents of the students she tends to, is that she will one day lose control and hurt somebody, resulting in her losing her loved ones and everything she has worked so hard to gain (as the Dolorosa sadly did, when Signless was captured and their group disbanded, either sold into slavery or disappearing into obscurity).

How did you hear about us?: Your Marshall Lee player.

Character Information
Name: Fionna Allegri (Fionna)
Canon Origin/Series: Adventure Time (the gender swapped episode “Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake”)
School Year: Fifth Year
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Out of school living location: Ipswich, Suffolk, East Anglia, England
Blood status: Raised Muggleborn, but is biologically Halfblood (muggle mother, halfblood father)

Personality:
Fionna is probably the most adventurous and imaginative person you could ever meet. No matter what she does, she approaches it like she's a hero out of a storybook. It's what she does, though her imaginative streak sometimes leads her astray when she should be doing important things like studying. She's also pretty hotheaded and stubborn, never backing down from a challenge. The one surefire way to get her to do something is to say that you think she can't. Her stubbornness also gets her into trouble as she's unwilling to let go of a fight once one's been started, particularly if it concerns one of her friends. Fionna is staunchly loyal to the friends she makes and is always ready to leap to their defense if necessary. She can get overly angry and emotional at times, but tries to keep herself in check and always apologizes to her friends when things get out of hand.

Her strong sense of responsibility and need to be a hero stems from the fact that she was given up for adoption as a baby. She loves her adoptive parents, but she can't help but dwell on the possible circumstances behind her abandonment. She knows that it's possible her mother gave her up for good reasons, but there's always the nagging doubt that she wasn't wanted. This guilt causes her to become a bit clingy with her friends. To counteract these thoughts, she strives to be an incredibly good person and to help others as much as possible. This gives her personal validation and, to her, means that people will want her around.

She may be courageous, but Fionna also has fears and insecurities. She has a strong fear of the ocean, despite the fact that she can easily come into contact with any other body of water. She also doesn't really share her personal feelings with people, preferring to keep up her normal enthusiasm so that they won't worry about her. On the whole, though, she comes off as a typical tomboy to most people, even her close friends. She's also very strange and eccentric, between her habit of coming up with random slang terms and her tendency to wear her rabbit hat (which she made with her mother's help) whenever she can get away with it.

Canon Background:
Since this is an AU where all the characters of Adventure Time are gender swapped, Fionna's basic history is the same as Finn's. Abandoned as a baby, she was found by two cats and raised by them alongside her adoptive sister, Cake. The two eventually grew up and became adventurers, running around solving everyone's problems in the Land of Ooo. Fionna is also the only human in the Land of Ooo, which is essential to her character.

Her one episode centered around her first defeating the Ice Queen then going on a date with Prince Gumball only to find out it was a trap set by Ice Queen, who'd taken his place in the earlier fight. Beyond that, we can only assume that she went on adventures similar to Finn's. We do know that she has a crush on Prince Gumball, though she actually admits it instead of denying it. She's also friends with Marshall Lee, implying that the event where Marceline tried to kick Finn and Jake out of their tree fort still happened. We also know that her most constant enemy is the Ice Queen, who does make a point of mentioning how often the two do battle.

Background (AU!Canon; HP): Paranormal Fionna was born out of a fling between a muggle woman and a wizard. Her mother had no intention of keeping her and left her at an orphanage, where she was quickly adopted by Josephine and Martin Allegri. She grew up like any other normal child in the town of Ipswich, where she loved to go on “adventures”. It didn't matter if she was climbing trees or waging war on some of the more annoying schoolboys, Fionna did it all as if she was a hero in some storybook. Being loud and outspoken put her at odds with most of the other kids, but she did end up attracting her own little gang. Together they ran about town proclaiming themselves the “Heroes of Ipswich”. She even dragged her poor cat Cake into her adventures, though being the cuddly type she didn't seem to mind.

When her Hogwarts letter came, her parents were puzzled but she saw it as just another adventure. She was reluctant to leave her small group of friends behind (to go to boarding school, she told them), but she approached the idea with the same bombastic enthusiasm as always. Before she left for her first year, her parents sat her down and told her that she was adopted. They tried to be encouraging, telling her that maybe her mother couldn't take care of her or perhaps she died. Fionna nodded and agreed with her usual optimism, but deep down wondered if she'd been abandoned and if her being a witch had anything to do with it.

She managed to attract more friends at Hogwarts than back in Ipswich, but her schooling was another matter. She struggled with Potions and History of Magic the most, finding the former difficult and the later abysmally boring. Surprisingly, she took to Defense Against the Dark Arts quickly, though that probably had to do with her childish fantasy of being a hero. She also enjoyed Care of Magical Creatures once she entered her third year and jumped at the chance to join Dueling when it was available to her. Apptivity

How would your character fit in to each House?

Gryffindor: This House embodies most everything about Fionna. She's all about courage, bravery and nerve, never backing down from a challenge no matter how ridiculous it is. She also has the bullheadedness common amongst Gryffindors, charging ahead no matter what.

Hufflepuff: This is another good fit. Fionna is staunchly loyal to the friends she makes, though that could be more for her own validation than anything else. She's also exceptionally tolerant of others since she has no room to judge others for their history and believes in playing (and fighting) fair.

Ravenclaw: This House would fit Fionna the least. She may be very creative (particularly with coming up with her own slang), but she's not the smartest or wittiest person around. Odds are she'd never be able to answer the riddles to access the common room on her own.

Slytherin: Fionna could possibly fit in this House. She's very resourceful and a pretty good leader when given the chance, but she lacks the usual Slytherin ambition or cunning.

RP Samples:
Dressrobes Post

Third Person Sample:
Fionna stared down at the book in front of her. How many times had she read through this for homework? And she still had no clue what to do about the assignment. She sighed and let her head fall to rest on the page, lightly thumping it against the book. Why did History of Magic have to be so hard? At least she could do the written homework for Potions, but this? This was just a complete mess. Who thought of essays as schoolwork, anyway? They needed to be forced to write the longest essay ever and see how they liked it.

She could just see it now. She'd travel back in time (somehow), find the dude (because of course it was a dude) and force him to write out the longest essay in the history of ever under pain of...something. It would be amazing, and then schools would never assign essays again. She'd be a hero! Everyone would want to be friends with the girl who ended essays forever! And she would ride through the school astride her giant faithful companion Cake and they'd go off onto other adventures like defeating the Ice Queen and saving the world and...

Fionna woke with a start to find that she'd been drooling on her text book. She let out a frustrated groan before attempting to start her homework yet again, only to inevitably be distracted by Cake swatting her failed attempts across the floor. She shut her book and walked over to her fluffy cat, lifting her up to cuddle her.

“Looks like homework's a bust again, Cake. Let's go hunt some spiders!”

Character Information
Name: Porrim Maryam
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
School Year: 5th
Gender: Female
Age: 15
Out of school living location: Coventry, West Midlands, England
Blood status: Muggleborn

Personality: Porrim is noted for having a lot of relationships that are, essentially, the Troll equivalent of romantic/sexual flings. These relationships are quick, but seem to have generally ended amiably; only Kankri seems to have a problem with them, and he was not involved in any of them. She loves freely, and doesn't see this as making her any less of a good woman. In fact, she's a feminist, bred from her disdain for how she pushed into a role during life by her gender... As well as her class, which is another issue she isn't afraid to take on.

Though Porrim might protest that she wasn't bothered by Kankri being cold, but rather his showing it, this statement easily leads to the assumption that she does care about others, but prefers a more distant, tough love. She clearly does want to keep Kankri out of trouble, but has no problem scolding him. However, some of the unattached attitude isn't routed in caring; she openly but carelessly agrees that most of her and Meenah's friends are lame.

Not only does Porrim own up to having few secrets, but she likes to know the secrets and open nature of others, as well. She's clearly shown to be a gossip in her conversation with Meenah, and when talking to Latula, she tells her she doubts anyone is looking, so she needn't go over-the-top with her radicalness. So she is both open and urges other to be sincere, in their own way.

Porrim shudders at the memory of Kankri's "unfashionable" hitched-up pants, and that was another motive for her creating his sweater. Not only does this show that she's fashionable, but her ability to make the sweater and her unique way of dressing and her body art show that she's creative.

Canon Background:
A jade blooded girl, (and, unrelatedly, a rainbow drinker), Porrim was expecting to tend to the mother grub as her purpose in life. Porrim came to dislike this lifestyle greatly, as well as the fact that her blood and her gender determined her fate. This lead to her being an active feminist. She would also look out for Kankri, and in general, found her life largely filled with "teen drama".
In her game of Sburb, Porrim was the Maid of Space, but the session ultimately failed drastically. We meet Porrim in a dream bubble, where she talks with various other Trolls and we see her personality.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):
[paranormal]Porrim Maryam was born into a muggle family. Her and her cousin, an older male, were the only ones with magical blood that the line knew of. Said cousin, incidentally, is the ex-husband of Dolores Maryam. Porrim was quite curious about the magical world, and took to it rather well, although she noticed that it, look the muggle world, had its injustices, which she did - and still does - her best to fight.

Porrim was turned into a vampire at age 16 in her Fifth Year, during Winter Holidays, when she took a wrong turn into Knockturn Alley This was a good ten years ago. After being bitten, Porrim left Hogwarts, only to return five years ago in first year classes, with the help of Dumbledore and a charm to make her appear younger. Earlier in her second stay at Hogwarts, she had a relationship with one Aranea Serket... And many others, actually. She's very open about her romantic and sexual history.

Once again a fifth year, Porrim takes required classes and Political Magic, Divination, and Ancient Ruins.[apptivity]

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: Though she praises Meenah for having the "noble idea of a ghost army, she doubts her own value in such a cause. She's generally not seen to be outgoingly brave, but her dedication to Kankri is loyalty, especially by Trolls standards. On the other hand, what she points out to Kankri about his "appropriation bullshit" could be seen as daring, in a social sense.

Hufflepuff: See above for notes on loyalty. Hard work is a fair bit more tricky to gauge, though. She hated the work of jade bloods, but that was more because she saw it as unfair that she had to do it thanks to blood and gender than a case where she hated the work. In fact, she eventually found herself drawn to the duty again. She can be detached and blunt at times, but is ultimately a nice person. She believes in fairness in that she wants gender equality, but is not patient with those who don't appreciate that desire.

Ravenclaw: She shows intelligence and a preference for the tactical when she explains why Meenah should focus on asking the God Tiers to join her army first. She's also a bit witty, poking fun at her own promiscuity in a closing statement to Meenah. Furthermore, Porrim has an individualist mindset among the jade bloods, and is also creative - for example, she makes Kankri's sweater for him.

Slytherin: Porrim is more the sort to buck tradition than the sort to stick to it. She's also not really the leader type. However, her breaking away from her role as a jade blooded woman, and her general approach towards gender equality, shows ambition and determination. Intelligence is noted on above, and finally, her resistance to join Meenah's army could be seen as self-preservation.

Canon Background:
Kurloz Wiki
Kurloz is the Ancestor/Descendant of Gamzee Makara and is the resident Rage player of his group's session in Sgrub. Hailing from Beforus, Kurloz grew up in a peaceful society where the higher caste trolls were meant to use their longevity to care for the lower, short-lived trolls. When he was younger he had both his red quadrants filled, having Mituna as a moirail and a matespritship with Meulin Lejion, and the two were so attached that their friends speculated that the two would be matesprits forever. One day however, they fell asleep together and Kurloz supposedly had a nightmare so terrible that he released the most dreadful sound ever heard, likened to the Vast Honk. The sound deafened Meulin completely and she never recovered her hearing. Anguished at the pain he had caused to his matesprit, Kurloz took a vow of silence, bit out his tongue and sewed his mouth shut. Following this Kurloz and Meulin took up sign-language, able to lengthily communicate with each other again. Though the two remain good friends, they never returned to their matespritship.

Like Gamzee, Kurloz is devoted to his esoteric faith, and even before he went mute he often preached of the "messiahs" and "angels of double death", which unsettled a few of his friends. Unlike Gamzee though, Kurloz's attire and style of makeup imply a more sinister cult than Gamzee's, as Kurloz dresses as a skeleton mime rather than a juggalo or clown.

While it seemed impossible for such a gentle (if occasionally sassy, given him flipping the bird at Meenah) troll to have a dark side, it does exist and in spades. Upon receiving Gamzee's codpiece from Meulin, Kurloz displays that he is a potent telepath and more than just a bit capable of mind-control, using his chucklevoodoos to turn Meulin nto his puppet, then showing a distinct possessive nature when he refers to her as his "kittybitch" of all things. This sinister side to Kurloz grows as it is shown that he is helping his "lord" (supposedly Gamzee's unstable half) to kill off his "heretic" friends and to bring about the Dark Carnival.

Original Background:
Paranormal. Kurloz's mother was a bit of a wild child who had been close friends with Rhys Rhydderch's younger sister Rhian. Along the line she ended up meeting the mysterious Rhys and was promptly charmed, leading to a short whirlwind relationship. While she was enamoured with him, she came to realize that Rhys wasn't entirely sane or safe, and left him with no hard feelings. It wasn't until she was back in her hometown that she realized she was pregnant, and recalling how dangerous Rhys was inside, she decided against telling him and settled down, wanting to raise her child away from such insanity.

Kurloz grew up with his single mother in a small house of Doolin where he spent much of his childhood soaking up Irish folktales, enjoying the stories of miraculous happenings by thanks of local faeries. Whether it was thanks to his being of wizarding blood or not, Kurloz was able to see the faeries that would occasionally appear in the forests and beach, which only strengthened his belief in miracles. Perhaps it was thanks to the fickle faeries and their natural emissions of magic, but somewhere along the line they might have been responsible for the development of his capricious nature that seems to be part of the latent insanity in his father's bloodline. He began drawing quite a bit as a child and would often scribble out the various magical creatures he met. These solitary habits of wandering around alone and sketching led him to be alienated by the children in his village, even the young witches and wizards finding him weird.

His mother didn't bothering to teach him about magic until his own powers began to manifest - the most notable incident being when he managed to draw all the rats in the village to their back yard as he practiced on his fiddle. His mother grew worried when he would tell her about the things he'd learned from the fae folk (herding the rats having been one sign of the strength in his 'persuasion' they'd given him), and tried to keep him from playing out at night when the creatures would be more likely to appear. It all amounted to nothing though, since Kurloz would just sneak out of the house. He never knew his father and his mother refused to tell him about the mysterious man, only revealing that he was a wizard and that yes, he was alive. She couldn't completely deny Kurloz after all - he'd clearly inherited a certain amount of Rhys' compelling nature, and the villagers joked that his eyes were fae-touched in how one could supposedly get lost in their strange indigo hue.

Wanting a good life for him, Kurloz's mother enrolled him at Hogwarts, knowing he'd get the best wizarding education from there. She just didn't realize that Rhys Rhydderch was a Potions professor there. Kurloz enjoyed his days at Hogwarts, finally able to talk about his experience with the faeries and their nightly festivals freely with the other students. Eventually he found a close friend in Meulin, absolutely charmed by the hyperactive and romantic girl. They soon began to date in Kurloz's fourth year, though they never did anything beyond a few innocent kisses as Meulin was younger than him.

When he returned home for the holidays at the end of his fourth year, he asked his mother again and again for more information on his father. She finally caved, believing Kurloz to be old and mature enough to understand, and told him that his father was, while a respectable and powerful wizard, just a bit too keen on the Dark Arts for her to reveal her son to. Kurloz was satisfied with this, but he also grew curious about the Dark Arts, wanting to understand why they would hold such allure for his father. He secretly ordered books on the subject, spending quite a large chunk of his holidays on reading them, never game enough to practice said spells but learning everything about them. Concerned with how much time Kurloz was spending holed up in his room, his mother told him to invite a friend for the holidays.

He immediately Owled Meulin and she soon showed up to spend a week with them. Kurloz secretly told her everything he'd learned about his father and the two speculated what sort of man he might be. As young minds are oft to do, their imaginations ran wild and they came up with some rather terrifying personas for the mystery man. One night, Kurloz had an intense nightmare involving their imagined monster father, and he screamed out a curse in self-defense. The dark spell struck Meulin, leaving her deaf and she was promptly taken to hospital.

Horrified with what he'd done - in accident no less - Kurloz bit out his own tongue, which led to a trip to the hospital for him as well. Though the healers were able to recover the tongue, the trauma of the experience left Kurloz mute and depressed. He never explained, but one of the reasons he refused to speak was because a small part of him had enjoyed casting the spell, that it had made him feel powerful... and that terrified him.

He didn't return to Hogwarts for a year due to therapy, picking up sign-language in the process. He grew obsessed with the human body and how frail it was, studying biology on his own avidly and learning all the strengths and weaknesses his species had to offer. His obsession went so far as to lead him into decorating some of his clothes with bones, leaving him looking like a skeleton himself. He grew smarter with his age though, and knew to keep these hidden from his already worried mother, wearing them only when alone at home, often staring for hours at the mirror and naming all the bones in his body, then those painted on his clothes. His sketchbooks were filled with eerily accurate anatomical drawings as well as questionable pieces that portrayed him being slowly swallowed up by monsters. He even went so far as to purchase greasepaint, decorating his face like a skull. After a while he began to wear khol around his eyes daily, the sinister part of his mind insisting that the black lines made the indigo irises stand out, making them more noticeable and captivating and soon he found that if he wanted he could stare into someone's eyes and they wouldn't be able to look away.

With his spirits supposedly lifted despite remaining mute, his psychiatrist suggested to his mother that Kurloz might recover fully if he were returned to his school environment where he could grow used to magic again. Thus, Kurloz returned to Hogwarts to pick up his fifth year at last. Apptivity.

[personal profile] blood_winged 2012-10-12 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Personality: Prior to the summer preceding his fourth year at Hogwarts, Mituna was a bright young man gifted with an exceptional aptitude for magic and a high level of intelligence. He was proud of his achievements and always seeking new knowledge, devouring the contents of every book he could lay his hands on. His sense of humour was one which relied mostly upon wit, but he could just as easily laugh at a badly constructed pun as an intellectual joke. While his occasional snide remarks and, as he reached his teens, increased tendency towards being dirty-minded could have people side-eyeing him, his natural charm and cheerful demeanour could easily win people over.

It was rare that he would be visibly angry, tending more towards holding that kind of thing inside and taking down his enemies with eloquence rather than violence. He could be easily affected by criticism, but turned it more towards improving himself than taking it to heart, even if he would be visibly embarrassed by having flaws pointed out and might sulk somewhat afterwards.

When he wasn’t finding out everything there was to know about his latest intellectual fascination, he would spend his time outdoors with a close friend, practicing experimental and occasionally dangerous broomstick manoeuvres (something which he still continues to do).

However, when he returned to school for his fourth year, he might as well have been an entirely different person. Mituna had changed from a gifted young wizard with a bright future to a boy who was occasionally incapable of even stringing together a coherent sentence. While he’s still capable of learning and performing magic, he suffers frequent and frustrating setbacks which trigger explosions of temper and sulking which is very childish for someone of his age. Any pride he feels in his achievements is now something which is more often prompted by other people noticing that he did something good, rather than being aware of it himself.

His temperament is now far more unstable than it used to be, often swinging without warning between frustrated anger and soft-spoken calm. He functions best around people he knows well and finds difficulties in conversing with strangers, in part because of his lack of social grace and also because his mood swings and lack of understanding from strangers about his condition can cause people to not want to attempt to get to know him. Mituna dislikes being touched by people he doesn’t know well, and there are only a few people that he will tolerate sustained physical contact from.

Many of his previous personality traits are still present, though not necessarily intact. He still has his peculiar, occasionally perverted sense of humour, though a diminished social filter means that he’s often inappropriate. Whether or not he actually means to be is anyone’s guess, but he has retained his respect for his teachers and will listen to them if they scold him. If pulled up on one of his outbursts by the victim of it or a bystander, he may immediately stop what he’s doing and apologise, even if he doesn’t particularly like the other person. This, of course, doesn’t lend much credit to the sincerity of his apologies. He will often evade questions or answer them indirectly or with an answer that only seems to make sense to himself, and reacts poorly to sudden shocks or surprises, occasionally having panic attacks that seem completely untriggered except to those who know what happened to cause him to be how he is now.

He doesn’t remember much about the events which caused his current problems, and becomes confused and agitated when pressed about them. The relationship he has with his brother also changed, and although he would still defend Sollux against anyone speaking poorly of him, he is ill equipped to do so and more often ends up being the one needing to be defended.

Canon Background: When we first see Mituna in Homestuck, there is an immediate display of his clumsiness as he grinds across a bridge railing and promptly falls flat on his face. It is revealed over the course of the conversations that he has with the other trolls that despite his obvious problems he had managed to maintain two stable quadrants for hundreds of years, apparently with no one being quite sure how he achieved it. His moirail, with whom it is rumoured that he is actually coherent, is Kurloz Makara, who implied to have had some involvement in the events which caused his brain damage. He also has a long-standing matespritship with Latula Pyrope, with whom he shares a love of performing skateboard stunts.

It can be taken from Meenah’s reaction to his sexual innuendo that he was always somewhat perverted, though despite her teasing of him she is quick to step up and defend him against Cronus’ bullying and Kankri’s backhanded insults.

Unlike Karkat's group, Mituna and his fellow trolls come from a planet called 'Beforus', and unlike Alternia it was a peaceful planet with similarly peaceful trolls. It was only post-Scratch, with the arrival of the First Guardian Doc Scratch that the troll's society became violent.

From the wiki page:
Mituna was the Heir of Doom in the failed A1 Sgrub session, which took three solar sweeps; it is unknown if Mituna ascended to the God Tiers during this time, as he himself seemed confused and uncertain about whether he had done so. As with the rest of their team, he was killed by Meenah Peixes to ensure that they "survived" in the Furthest Ring instead of being completely wiped out by the Scratch's reset.

In Openbound Part 2, upon exiting Terezi's hive as Meenah, Aranea gives a short biography of Mituna and his history:

"The Heir of Doom was once a powerful psionic. He was gifted with vision twofold, and had strong prophetic insights wherever a 8leak future was concerned. He had much to say when it came to warning us a8out the path of doom and destruction we were all headed for, 8ut no one took him very seriously. 8ut one day he lost all those abilities when he 8adly overexerted himself. It's hard to get any specifics from him, 8ut indications are that he applied every last 8it of energy he had toward some great act of heroism, saving us all from some looming threat. Not only did his exertion permanently 8urn out his psychic a8ilities, 8ut it left him somewhat... er. Incoherent. [...] The entire incident is shrouded in mystery. From his limited and scattered accounts of what happened, it seems very likely that Kurloz was with him at the time, as the only eye witness. And of course it's impossi8le to get any relia8le information out of him. I guess we may never know, sadly."

Character Information
Name: Cronus Ampora
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
School Year: 5th
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Out of school living location: Athens, Greece.
Blood status: Pureblood

Personality:

There's a lot to be said about the kind of guy Cronus is. At first appearance, he comes across as friendly and welcoming--maybe even a little bit too much of both. Honestly, it's such an act and it's nearly painful to watch. Anyone who falls for it is surely the gullible sort. Cronus, in a lack of better words, is fake. He puts on a personage of traits he thinks people like in an attempt to trick them into liking him. He’s desperate for attention, however as canon has shown, he’s more interested in the physical aspects of a relationship than anything actually emotionally validating.

Cronus goes on to talk about how sensitive of a guy he is, and how he doesn’t regard the hemospectrum at all, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Sensitivity is a trait often regarded as desirable, or so Cronus believes, so he emulates it to try and win favor with others, but from what we can see in canon he’s anything but. That goes along with his regard of the hemospectrum, no one wants to date a guy who thinks he’s better than everyone else, right? So, the obvious solution is to downplay the fact that you’re a bigoted jerk who thinks he’s the shit by claiming the contrary. In many regards, Cronus seems to take the very things that Kankri rants about and uses it as a guide to craft himself around. However, it hardly impresses anyone, unsurprisingly.

This isn’t to say that Cronus has no feelings at all, he does, definitely. He has insecurities, despite his obvious self obsession and overblown view of himself. However, these feelings are different than what most people have. Muted almost. They are there, enough for him to obviously feel and react to things, but they seem almost as on the surface and shallow as any of his various ploys he pulls to get what he wants. A perfect example of this is how he handles rejection. Rejection hurts, and instead of him showing an ounce of being bothered or off-put by it, it’s merely a signal for him to keep pushing, to try harder. He brushes it off, completely unscathed by it, where as someone would normally be, at the very least, disheartened. He almost treats things like a game he has to win, if one strategy fails, he just has to figure out a new one. Which adds to his over all unappealing image to others.

Upon having little boundaries towards coming on to people, he’s the same when it concerns personal boundaries too. As shown in his conversation with Mituna, placing his hand on his shoulder and keeping it there despite protests from the yellow-blooded troll. Even making Mituna feel bad about being uncomfortable, manipulating him with guilt so that he could continue to do what was making the poor guy uncomfortable in the first place. Cronus is very much after what he wants and he doesn’t really care who he hurts in the process. He may fake empathy, but it’s merely a means to an end to him.

Further proof of his lack of empathy comes forth in a conversation with Mituna, where he unleashes exactly why him and the other Amporas are referred to as findouches. He gets angry because he loses his chance to hit on Meenah, and decides it’s Mituna’s fault, so like a mature individual, he grills the poor guy for something that is literally not his fault. Cronus doesn’t care though, Mituna is nothing but an outlet to him at this point, something of use and that’s about it. He shows absolutely no signs of remorse for this. In a way, this grilling does show some insight to Cronus and what issues he DOES have with being rejected, though honestly it’s more about how fucked up everyone else is and nothing to do with what’s wrong with him. Primarily, he’s angry at Mituna for having what he failed to garner for himself. His earlier conversation with Meenah helps proves that he also thinks that there’s a problem with other people not noticing HIM, than him being the problem. He doesn’t understand what other want in regards to relationships or why they wouldn’t like him, other than the fact he isn’t "broken" in some way. He simply doesn’t understand how other people feel, and he doesn’t make much of an effort to try.

Even when he’s called out on his shit, reacting like he got caught with his pants down, he’s more worried about the image he’s reflected towards Meenah and how it has slimmed his chances to be with her, than what damage he might have done to Mituna in his bout of anger. He's also keen to shifting blame, instead of taking it. Doing such with Meenah when she called him out on his doucheyness towards Mituna, bringing up how the Condesce treats the Psiioniic, despite it being an alternate version of herself, and not actually her. As it would seem, Cronus is more willing to let his "real" self show when it comes to those "weaker" than himself. Preying upon those who can’t really defend themselves against him, however when it comes to those who can, he plays the act of the sensitive, progressive, nice guy as best he can. Ultimately, he’s a coward.

It’s quite possible that through all of his acts and persona crafting, he might have lost sight of who he really is in a way. He’s been trying so hard to fit the bill of what he thinks people like, that he’s not even sure when he’s pulling shit for attention, or when he actually feels a certain way. With his identity as a humankin comes a bit of doubt on his end about it. This surfaces when Meenah calls him on it, saying it’s for attention. However, Kankri serves to enable his awful behaviors, reinforcing his feelings and erasing what doubts there might be that he’s faking what he’s doing. Which only serves to keep the cycle going for Cronus. Kankri and Cronus have an interesting relationship in this, in a way, enabling each other of their awful habits and forging a friendship from it. They really just perpetuate their own personal flaws.

All in all, Cronus is a pretty skeevy guy. All of his agendas focus on him and what he can gain, his selfishness really knows no bounds, and he’s manipulative and controlling. He plays up dramatics to garner pity, pretends to be what he isn’t to do the same, fakes almost all his interactions... In short, Cronus is hardly a swell guy. He can pretend he’s some nice, sensitive guy who just wants to listen and be there for people, but he isn’t and he won’t ever be. He’s too blinded by his own self-centered personality to ever really understand how to be sympathetic. He’s hardly the sensitive musician he tries to play himself up to be.

Canon Background: Sure is a wiki page!

Background (AU!Canon; HP):paranomal Cronus was both born and raised in Greece. His parents happily married, and they had a pretty full and happy family, until the unfortunate happened. His mother passed away when he was only 6 years old, leaving behind his father, brother, and himself to grieve. His father wasn’t around as much as he could have been, even before her death due to Murdoc being an Auror. So the two Ampora children were left to be tended to by their nanny. Which, lead to a childhood nearly bereft of parental interaction. Cronus hardly holds this against his father, even if he was a bit young to fully understand the circumstances of everything. Honestly, he really didn’t even mind too much. Besides, it gives him good ammo to use if he needs to guilt his father anyways. Best son? Best son.

The isolation from his father certainly did well for him and his brother. Sure, maybe Eridan is a little sensitive and socially inept, and Cronus devoid of empathy and an idea of what’s socially acceptable, but they are definitely doing well for themselves, at least Cronus is! ...Or at least he thinks. Truth is, he’s really not. Not to say the nanny did a bad job, but there are just certain things a parent can impose on a child, that some hired help really can’t.

The nanny certainly didn’t stop the boys from picking on each other either, what with Cronus having two lightning bolt-looking scars on his forehead. Now, you’re probably thinking it was a magical mishap, maybe some dark lord attacked wee little Cronus and left a double lightning bolt scar like a certain one did to a certain boy with the last name of Potter, but I assure you it wasn’t anything that impressive. It was a childhood accident, but Cronus will have anyone believe it was the work of Dark Magics, but reality will have you know it was his snotty little brother who did the damage.

However, despite having his brother and nanny, Cronus was a pretty lonely child, though the effects of this are hardly as noticeable in him than it would be in most kids. He’s always wearing a smile, acting cheerful and friendly(maybe even too friendly), even if he IS lonely and actually a bit bitter. Cronus has always been good at hiding his darker emotions, even as a kid, and for the most part he’s pretty successful. Even those close to him hardly know about his crueler aspects, not even his brother has laid witness to what Cronus is actually capable of, and he’s arguably the closest family Cronus has.

Cronus’ relationship with his brother is... a difficult thing to explain. While they may act as if they can’t stand each other, or more so, Eridan acts that way about Cronus, there is a bond between them. Whether it’s JUST because of being family or because they understand each other through their shared childhood and situation, but it’s hardly some unbreakable thing. Cronus definitely cares about Eridan and his father more than he does most people--but this really isn’t saying much for the lad, considering he really doesn’t care about anyone but himself.

Even with his mother’s death, Cronus didn’t feel much about it at all, he was old enough to understand what was happening, of course, but it really didn’t affect him as much as it normally would most children. Sure, there was a sense of loss, but over all her presence, or lack there of, didn’t emotionally impact him as much as one would suspect. But not much ever has, honestly. What emotions the boy shows always have a shallowness to them, and his personality has always come across like some over done act, instead of something legitimate. Cronus always seems to do a mock version of how people act, like a never ending performance of trying to mimic acceptable traits. Either to try to be liked or come across as normal. This would serve to put quite the barrier between Cronus and most people, because while he could do a copy of typical social interaction, his utter lack of empathy makes it hard for the boy to form basic bonds--even with family.

Which is partially why his relationship with his brother is so rocky. While Eridan is his brother, and they grew up together, he doesn’t have as great of a bond with him as most siblings would, and maybe its this indifference that has things so rugged. Cronus never was that popular of a child anyways, even with his friendly act and what not--sure, he could trick kids into liking him.. for a while, but soon they’d catch on and otherwise abandon him, but he’d keep on. Because it just meant that he needed to find someone new to replace the old; he never got horribly attached, he really couldn’t. He may act needy and desperate, especially as a teenager, but whether or not any of it is sincere is dubious at best. If there’s one thing about the Ampora brothers, they are hardly the princes of social interactions, both scuffing it up one way or another. Their childhood was hardly one filled with sleep overs and friendly hang outs, that’s for certain.

Once they were old enough, Cronus and his brother got acceptance letters to Hogwarts, however Cronus disregarded his to study in Greece, while Eridan, who got his two years after Cronus, would leave to go to school. This left Cronus more or less alone, what with an absent father, a brother going to a school in England, and an unsightly lack on friends. He decided to continue his own studies and schooling in Greece for the next four or so years despite it all, which gave him a lot of freedom. Freedom which allowed him to procure himself quite the interest in muggles. Being a pureblood, he normally wouldn’t have this chance to really get acquainted with their nonmagical neighbors, but curiosity and lack of supervision definitely lead Cronus into the world of muggles.

He instantly fell in love with them.

Magic has always been an interest of Cronus’, no doubt, but magic itself has always felt pressed onto the boy by society, so a world existing without magic, a world thriving on its own without so much as the "hassle" of magic seemed so unreal and fantastically mundane to the boy, that it was enthralling. So much so, Cronus garnered himself a recent identity that would surely put his father into an early grave. Cronus believes he is a mugglekin. A wrongfully born pureblood, a muggle who should have been in their world, but was born into this world of magic. Maybe it’s ridiculous, but Cronus hardly cares. It makes sense to him and it’s how he views himself now that he’s been exposed to that other world. However, with his identity being something recent for him, he doesn’t advertise it as much as he could, but his interest in muggles is no secret--a fascination which is horrifically suspicious.

Along with muggles and their peculiarities, he discovered his own love for their music too, so of course, he’s an aspiring artist! Or so he thinks. Certainly this is a shock. Whether he’s actually any good with music or not... lets just say the jury is still out on that one. But HE thinks he’s good, and has been spending much of the last year or so trying to discover himself and "his sound", so he puts it. This coupled with the mugglekin thing... Yeah, Cronus has turned out a bit odd. Especially for a pureblood.

However, despite his new found identity, Cronus has decided to finish out his last few years of schooling at Hogwarts. Both his brother and father are currently there, and with his less than successful romantic excursions in Greece(He didn’t even make friends in those 4 years), admittedly this being a great factor in his decision, he transfered to the school. It could be that he couldn’t bare the loneliness that being in Greece without his family gave him, or he could have easily been looking for a new "hunting" ground for a shot at finding himself relationships--whatever the case may be, he’s made his way to Hogwarts and sadly they’re stuck with him. apptivity

How did you hear about us?: HOW CAN I HEAR ABOUT THIS GAME WHEN I WAS ALREADY HEREEEE

Character Information
Name: Cephas Captor (The Psiioniic/Helmsman)
Canon Origin/Series: Homestuck
Teaching Position and why it suits them: Flying. Flight has had a large influence on the Psiioniic’s life in canon, considering his psychic abilities enabled him to propel himself through the air, and that up to his death he was forced to fly. Cephas was also an extremely skilled flyer during his school years, and retained his love and ability for flight after graduation.
Suitability: Cephas is stubborn and strong-willed, and this will help him with teaching because he will do his best to make every student do their very best in class, regardless of how much work or how much resistance he meets. He wants everyone to be able to succeed, and to avoid mistakes his made. He’s caring, even if he can be standoffish and awkward, but he wants the best.
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Out of school living location: Cambridge, England
Blood status: Muggleborn.
Personality: Psiioniic is both similar and dissimilar to his descendant (and clone), Sollux. The two are extremely similar, but due to living in different times and in different circumstances, the two have developed differently.

One of the traits he shares with Sollux is duality. He didn’t spend quite as much time over come with self-loathing once he freed himself from bondage, but he was still remarkably temperamental, and it didn’t take much to send him into a fit of rage. Despite these fits, he was still mostly nonviolent, and he did believe that kindness is a good way to rebel. While his snarkiness and snippiness might not have automatically translated to some as kindness, he preferred teasing (not always as gentle as it could be) and playful barbs versus the cloying sweetness of his cohorts. He has a different brand of affection, and he likes it that way.

Not to say he never disliked anyone, and not to say he’s never got upset or depressed. Psiioniic could be overcome with bitterness, and an unbearable amount of anger and rage towards the hierarchy of Alternia, and the oppression faced by so called “low”blood trolls. Sometimes, though the occasions became rarer and rarer, he was so overcome by his loathing and despair he would doubt the success of the rebellion the Signless was leading, and he couldn’t help but dwell on how futile dismantling the caste system seemed to be. He learned how to drag himself out of these bleak moments, due mostly to the kind, yet stern, teachings of the Dolorosa.

He is remarkably stubborn, and was never one to back down from a fight. Of course, not all fights are or were serious, and he didn’t always pick his battles wisely. He would always react poorly to losing, whether it was a fist fight or a battle of wits, and he would spend hours or days sulking over it. (He insisted it wasn’t sulking, but he’d occasionally spend hours imagining how it they should have gone and how it was unfair, so on and so forth.)

While he does snark, and insults and jabs coming to him quite naturally, he’s not really the best at talking about things like gratitude or how he feels (without being sarcastic, at least). He prefers to show affection with things like small gifts or notes. Anything he can leave with the person and then leave without having to see their reaction first hand. He’s not shy, really, just easily flustered and always afraid that people will react negatively to his sincerity. It’s one of the few nasty thoughts that appears for him most often – that everyone secretly hates him and wants him gone. That’s why he’s hesitant to be sincere or kind in the first place, as he believes it will help the pain of losing them be less severe. He’s afraid of losing everyone he holds dear, because it’s always been such a very real possibility. He’s had to prevent himself from becoming close to other slaves, and holding friendships isn’t something he could say he’s very skilled at. He tries, though, even if he doesn’t find himself very successful.

Another difference between Sollux and the Psiioniic is how the Psiioniic treats higherblood trolls. While Sollux can be flippant and rude to anyone, the Psiioniic is far more cautious. It can be hard for him to be anything but obedient to a highblood, and after years and years in service it’s even harder. He’d never really been overtly disrespectful, preferring to keep to subtle insults, but he really prefers avoiding contact with his betters.

In the AU, Cephas is not that much different from his alien counterpart. While he’s a tiny fraction of the age, he’s just as intelligent and stubborn. He’s skittish and wary after his ordeal, and can be prone to getting caught up in his thoughts. He’s closed off for the most part, but after he begins to trust a person, or if he gets comfortable in his new position, people will have to deal with his mouthiness.

Canon Background: The Psiioniic was raised a slave, which Doc Scratch says is typical for his “mentally gifted class”. He was one of the strongest psychics at the time, but he managed to keep the full extent of his powers unknown to the slave keepers as he worked. The labor was still hard, and his life was still incredibly painful and filled with suffering. After all, he was a yellow blood. There were two castes below him, yes, but there were eight above him. He had to serve them, and his psionic abilities were useful, but they were not the only ones he had. He could hear the voices of the dying sometimes. Not the dead, no, but the voices of those that were well on the way to their graves. It was something he tried to ignore, because his masters didn’t like him pausing in his work to think on the voices he heard.

It wouldn’t be his abilities, or his curses as he would sometimes call them, that would inspire him to escape from his life of bondage. It would be a troll, who wasn’t even on the hemospectrum - a mutant, with blood that was far too red to be natural, and who had no sign. The Signless, or Sufferer as he would later be known to his followers, before being erased from history completely, had radical ideas of equality between bloods, that color should not dictate someone’s worth in society. These ideas were so absurd, and so just plain impossible, that any sane troll should have ignored him. But the Psiioniic was intrigued. He couldn’t deny that freedom and equality were appealing, something that he had longed for, and he escaped from slavery to join the troll without a sign and the jade blood troll who had raised him from grubhood, who was known as the Dolorosa. There was also a green blooded troll called the Disciple, who wrote down all of the Signless’ visions and teachings.

Together, the four trolls travelled Alternia, spreading the Signless’ message of acceptance and equality. Not all trolls were accepting, but some were. They were sparking a rebellion. Alternia was almost on the brink of a revolution. Displeased, the Empress lashed out. The four were captured, and split up. The Signless was publicly tortured and executed, earning the name Sufferer, and the Disciple was to be executed as well, but the executioner showed mercy on her and she fled with the remains of Signless’ clothing. The Dolorosa was sold into slavery. His punishment for the rebellion would be, in the words of Scratch, “far worse, if not more prestigious”. He was made to serve as the Helmsman for Her Condescension’s personal battleship, making it the fastest ship in the imperial fleet. The Condesce was so pleased with this, she granted her new Helmsman life that would match hers.

Now, a troll’s life expectancy correlates to their blood color. As a yellowblood, the Psiioniic had a life expectancy close to that of a reasonably healthy human, or between 90 and a 100 years (roughly 40 to 50 sweeps). As the highest on the hemospectrum, the Condesce has a lifespan well in the thousands. This meant the Helmsman would be alive for well more than ten, or even twenty, times what he would have lived normally. Though perhaps “alive” isn’t really the best word to use. While not much about Helmsmen is known, what we do know is that a Helmsman is that psychics with powers similar to the Psiioniic/Helmsman are exploited for travel, and that they are essentially living engines. We can also see that they power the ship by actually being a part of the ship.

It’s never explicitly stated exactly how many thousands of years the Helmsman served, but his story ends in death. He, along with the Condesce, is one of the ancestors we know for certain was alive at the same time during the trolls’ introduction and entrance into SGRUB, which means he is alive at the same time as his technical descendent and paradox clone. He is, however, the only ancestor to die at the same time as his descendent.

The trolls’ session began as most SGRUB/SBURB sessions do, with meteors coming down and striking their home planet. This would, naturally, upset Gl'bgolyb, who was the Condesce and Feferi’s mutual lusus, and something of a guardian of the planet. She could kill trolls with just her voice, even just a whisper. The lower classes were especially susceptible to death by Gl'bgolyb, but if her voice raised too high, she would kill every troll in the universe in an event known as the Vast Glub. (Tyrian trolls are an exception.) When news reached the Condesce, she instructed the Helmsman and all other ships in the fleet to Alternia. The strain of flying the battleship so quickly would more than likely have killed the Helmsman in the end in the end, but Gl'bgolyb released the Vast Glub far before they reached the planet, and the Helmsman died along with the Alternian empire.
Background (AU!Canon; HP): paranomal Cephas Captor was born in a small town in China. He didn’t have the name of Cephas Captor at the time, but that’s okay. He would be adopted as a child, and given a name to match his new life in England. Cephas was adopted by Julian Captor and his wife Annabelle, due to the fact that the couple could not have children of their own. However, the stress of raising a child as temperamental and needy as Cephas proved to be too much for Annabelle, and she left Julian soon after Cephas turned five, leaving the boy with his adoptive father.

Julian was distraught, but he and his son managed to pull through. Then, when Cephas was eight, the family changed again. Julian met a man named Jason a little more than a year after his wife left, and the two got along splendidly. Julian, who was bisexual, quickly became enamored with Jason, who responded in kind. The two worried about what Cephas would think of their relationship, but they had nothing to worry about. He accepted Jason into his family, even if it took him some time to stop referring to him as his “new mommy”.

The three of them lived quite happily, even if the two men worried about the strange things that happened around their son. It turned out to be nothing to worry about, and Cephas made his way to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with very little drama. There, the boy bloomed. He quickly became friends with a loud Gryffindor, despite the fact that he was in Ravenclaw and a bit of an asshole. He and the boy were very close, and the two of them were almost inseparable. He excelled in school and made top marks, and after graduation he began to work in the Ministry. He also managed to juggle a life in the Muggle world, meeting a kind, loving women he would have two children with. Mituna was born when he was young and stupid, with Sollux following a year after his brother.

The couple struggled, but Cephas moved to a nicer, if more dangerous, position as an Unspeakable in the Department of Ministry and was able to support them all financially. However, his girlfriend was unable to handle Cephas’s irritability alongside two small boys, and she left when the two were still too young to be able to properly remember their mother. Cephas was devastated by the loss, but he managed to pull through with help from his Gryffindor friend and his fathers, even if his work in the Department of Mysteries was more than a little dangerous.

It proved to be extremely dangerous during the height of the war. During Mituna’s fourth year, a group of Death Eaters found Cephas and his family. They wanted him to use his position as an Unpseakable to find things for them, to help with Voldemort’s cause, but he vehemently refused to help. The group would not take no for an answer. They tortured Mituna, and Cephas agreed to help if only to get them to leave him alone. (It turned out to be too late, and Mituna’s mind was damaged from the spell.)

However, for the longest time Cephas did not know about that. He didn’t know much about what happened to his sons at all. The group was mistrustful of him, for good reason, and they placed Cephas under the Imperious Curse to guarantee that he wouldn’t leave or divulge any secrets. He wasn’t the first or only wizard that would be cursed to do the bidding of Death Eaters, but he would be one that would occasionally have the will to overcome the curse. He would always be forced back into working for them, however, and it wasn’t until Voldemort’s defeat that he would be able to join his family without the fog from the Imperious Curse. He was mortified over what he had done and what had happened to his sons, and he knew he couldn’t return to the Ministry, even if he could not be blamed for his actions. He approached Dumbledore for help, because he knew the wizard was wise and helpful beyond what any one person had the right to be. He was offered a position at Hogwarts, so he could stay close to his children and so he could be safe, and he accepted the position of Flying teacher with little hesitation. He had always been an exceptionally talent flyer, and it seemed like the position he was most capable for. apptivity
