OC APPLICATION

O R I G I N A L C H A R A C T E R A P P L I C A T I O N

Thinking of applying as an Original Character or a Canon Original Character? This is the application page to visit. As with other applications, we want to make sure you read the rules, as well as the taken character list if you're applying as a Canon OC to make sure the character you are applying for has not been taken already. You also might want to check out holds just to make sure.

Please make sure that you read over the FAQ and the HP canon guide to clear anything up, and if you feel like something has not been mentioned, post a comment and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If having difficulty with your application, we recommend you give the Application Guide a look over as well.

Wondering what the guidelines are for Original Characters? Not sure if your character counts as Canon OC or what that even is? In addition to the normal application rules, you're expected to follow the guidelines we have listed below:

O R I G I N A L C H A R A C T E R R U L E S;

Canon OC rules:

1. No Fandom OC's. What is a Fandom OC? A Fandom OC is, for example, an X-Men character you created for that world and you want to bring them here. Not allowed, unfortunately.
2. Has to be a legitimate character. What does this mean? A random passerby character with no lines does not count.
3. In the personality section please make sure to let us know how you came to some of your own choices on the personality. This means naming canon examples.
4. If you're unsure whether your character qualifies as a Canon OC or not, make sure to ASK A MODERATOR before submitting your application.

OC Rules in General:

1. The same rules that we have for regular applications still apply. So check with us first about half Veela, Animagus, Vampire or Werewolf things.
2. Your character is not a descendant or related to ANY canon Harry Potter character. There are no exceptions to this rule.
3. Please be thorough with your personality section. We want a very solid idea of this. Since we don't have another place to look up their correct personality, the last thing we want is a character who is vague enough for this to change at a whim.
4. Applications with sparkly characters who are flawless orphans who are perfect at every subject and can do no wrong and everyone falls in love with them at every moment will be rejected.

Examples of Canon OC's:
- Fionna/Prince Gumball/Marshall Lee & canon genderswapped characters (Adventure Time)
- Matt (Death Note)
- Obscure Disney Prince/Characters (i.e: Prince from Cinderella/Snow White or the Feather Duster from Beauty & the Beast)
- Nyotalia (Hetalia)
- Ancestors (Homestuck)
- Foxface (Hunger Games)
- Ditzy Doo (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic)
- Femio (Princess Tutu)
- Silent Protagonists (video games)

T H I N G S T O T A K E N O T E O F;

1. The mods have the jurisdiction to approve or deny any application submitted.

2. Post your application with your personal journal on the application page itself instead of linking it! If you don't have a personal journal, that's okay, but we strongly prefer it for keeping track of people. Remember to PUT THE TYPE OF APPLICATION IN THE HEADER so we know whether this is a OC or a Canon OC.

3. Your application will need to include two specific words; these words can be found hidden in the rules and information pages linked in the community profile.

4. You may only apply for ONE character at a time. Once that character is approved than you may choose another. A player is not allowed more than one un-responded to application on the application forum. For all new players to the RP, we ask you wait one week before applying as a new character, this will give you time to settle in to the community.

5. If the character's canon is ongoing and it's still early in their introduction, rather than applying them as a canon OC, we will advise you to postpone your application until you can get more information on them.

6. KEEP IN MIND. This is Hogwarts, and it's a British school. There shouldn't be a huge flood of "DESU DESU DESU" at any point in time. Thus, your characters should be British, or at the very least European. If they aren't, you MUST have a GOOD reason for it! The UK is very diverse and has many nationalities, so if you want them to be a different ethnicity, they can still be British! Here are some locations where characters reside.

7. When applying for a Hetalia Character, we request that you phrase the Canon history in the context of the comic, as opposed to the actual history of the country. This is so we can see how the history translates in to the anthropomorphic character.

8. PLEASE KEEP OOC CONVERSATION OUT OF THE APP POST! At least keep it to a minimum if you are going to say something such as 'huzzah for [fill in character name here]', get their AIM and tell them in person. I am sure they would rather hear it that way.

9. We don't have App Cycles at this rp. If applying for a:
Student: The most important thing to remember for students is that they are students who go to school. Be prepared to observe all student rules, meaning there are IC consequences for fighting, sneaking out after curfew, and pranks. That doesn't mean not to have fun, just know your character can get in trouble for it! There are also classes with homework, but signing up and doing school work is optional. More info on student rules are here and these spots will always be open.

Teacher/TA: Keep in mind what characters are suitable to teach, and pick a subject that makes sense for them (and for Hogwarts if it's a non- canon class). There is a maximum of two teachers and two TAs on any given subject and occupied teacher and TA spots can be seen there. Teacher characters should do Homework often, which can be posted here. Teachers are encouraged to give out detentions, house points, and overall, remember that they're teachers. More info on teacher rules are here. Currently: OPEN TO CANON CLASSES

Staff Member: Similar to professors, minus the assignments, they have a degree of authority as well, but not as much as teachers. They focus on working in the hospital wing, library, grounds, etc. Just like professors, they shouldn't entirely neglect their jobs for social interaction and will use the same application form as teachers. Occupied staff positions can be seen here. Currently: OPEN TO CANON POSITIONS

10. If your application is:
Accepted: Congratulations! Follow the instructions, add yourself to all the lists, and welcome to Sorting Hat!

Wavered: We think your application could use a few improvements to be up to the quality of our roleplay. You have a week to adjust these issues before the character is up for grabs again. If you reapply and we still don't find it up to par, you will be rejected.

Rejected: There are significant problems with the application, so you must wait one week before reapplying or reserving that character (unless you already have a hold on that character, but you can't renew it if the hold expires). However, if you want to apply a different character, you can do so whenever.

Personality: Salman is an ambitious young man who never lets an opportunity to shine and succeed go to waste. He has a talent for making friends who benefit his own goals and further his ambitions (In canon, India wants to be friends with Russia because of economic opportunity.). That doesn't mean he is a bad friend, as he is very loyal, friendly, and kind. Once you are friends with him, he likes knowing your business, but he swears he won't tell anyone your secrets and get in your way. He has a habit of fondly teasing his friends, but it's all for fun and seen as rather playful. Sometimes he doesn't even realize he's embarrassing someone as he thinks his approach to things is the best and most efficient. He finds people most would call intolerable endearing, even cute (See Prussia and India during the Halloween Event.). Why Salman finds certain people endearing is a still a mystery, but it has caused him to gain friendships with some rather unique people. While friendly to most people, he only keeps a very close to him. When you become a close friend of his, he will be very loyal and help you anyway he can. Even if a friend betrays him, he believes strongly in forgiveness. It's not that he is a doormat, but he strongly believes forgiveness, compassion, and learning to become stronger through hardship.

Salman has a competitive edge to him (In canon, it is noted he is noted to compete with China.) always trying to be the best at his classes and activities. He is particularly good in Arithmancy, and has a fondness for Muggle Studies even though he isn't muggle born. He's always an exemplary student, and he does actually work hard in order to obtain his grades. Salman also likes to have fun, and with that he can very over the top. When he does something like an activity, party, etc. he goes all out (In the Halloween Event '11 he hires dancers to enter with him.) . He loves large, hectic but exciting experiences and always make a grand entrance when he needs to make a good first impression. He often says Namaste when greeting people, too (As seen in his canon appearances.). He is always well dressed, some saying he has a princely look to him (As stated in his canon profile.). Most of the time he is happy and tries not to get worked up or stressed out. Only rarely does he not look happy, and there are times where he puts a smile on his face even when he is upset. Salman likes doing things his way, and some may consider him stubborn. It's not that he's exactly stubborn, but he thinks his approach is the best for him; he is comfortable with himself and is proud of who he is (His officially profile in Hetalia states he likes doing things his way.). He also can be very persuasive, not giving up easily, especially if he wants something. He can be sneaky when he wants something, too, but he does try to be honorable for the most part.

Salman also has a great interest in Bollywood movies and music (In canon the author links him to Bollywood movies.). He has liked it ever since he was little and it has helped him relate to his former homeland and family. He also likes writing movie scripts, mostly about romance and epic adventures. Salman enjoys mentoring and helping those younger than him, telling them about Indian movies, music, and food. He is very proud of his Indian background, and he likes meeting other Indian student in Hogwarts. He also enjoys exotic animals (In canon he is a part of the "Elephant Club" and appears with his elephant.), magical or not, and he loves telling people about his pets back home in England and those living in India with his relatives. He is not to opposed to riding on large, dangerous animals nor handling them.

Canon Background:

India is considered one of the older nations of the world. While not as old as China, India was "born" around ~1700-1500 BCE. He doesn't even know exactly when he came to be, but during this time Indian culture started to form along with the beginnings of the Hindu religion itself. India had a lot of potential, and thus flourished into a powerful nations made up of many powerful kingdoms. Many stories were written during his early years, such as the Mahabharata, that proclaimed the greatness of India. His beginnings began with philosophy, the caste system, logic, and a unique perspective of the world different from the east asian and nations to the west of him. In later years, his siblings such as Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh, emerged.

For many years few very had close contact with India, but it was Ancient Greece with Alexander the Great who finally broke that contact barrier (~326 BCE). Ancient Greece was like no one he had ever met. Ancient Greece impacted India with her knowledge of art and philosophy. India also influenced her culturally. Sadly their time was cut short, and Ancient Greece retreated from India and Asia Minor. Her impact was felt, though, and the Seleucid Empire was created in her absence along with many others. India was forever changed, and he witness the fall and creation of many new nations and empires during this time period.

It took the creation of the Silk Road (~260 BCE) for India to reach out to other nations more actively. The trading involved in the Silk Road bolstered his economy and he became a formidable nation. Around this time is when he started forming a competitive economic relationship with China, influencing each other and sharing their cultural practices. The practice of Buddhism spread to many parts of East and South East Asia because of him. India was like an uncle to many East Asian nations along with those of South East Asia. He had a particularly strong influence on South East Asia, almost raising and mentoring them along side China. He would mentor thee nations for many centuries. India was also impacted by Persia and the army Persia had. Due to their trading, the more stories about India started spreading to outside Asia all the way to the Mediterranean. India also opened a vast maritime trading network, but still that connection to the Europe was missing.

Around 63 BCE, The Roman Empire began trading with India. Ties became stronger once Egypt became part of the Roman Empire. Trading of exotic animals, metals, spices, etc. became staples and Rome ordered from India. In return India was given new technology, exposure to more western philosophy, pottery, glass, and much more. India was amused at how much Rome enjoyed his animals, and there was a level of respect there. Some Romans evens decided to move to India, and the religions of India were known by Roman Scholars. At the same time, India had seen how quickly Rome and grown, even though younger than him, and how powerful he was. As time passed, India knew the decline of Rome was going to happen, but it was still something hard for him to witness, testing what is the mortality of a nation.

After the fall of Roman Empire and the Roman Byzantine Empire, India did not have a strong connection to the West for many years. For many centuries after (and bit during the trade with Rome), India was made up of many kingdoms. These kingdoms are known as the "Middle Kingdoms" of India. With these kingdoms many of the unique cultural and religious groups in India were created. The Gupta Empire brought a great amount of peace and prosperity to India, and this was his favorite kingdom at the time. This peace brought many breakthroughs in science, art, literature, engineering, astronomy, logic, math -- this was when India's Golden Age began. Many of India's most famous stories and literature were created during this time As mentioned before, he grew stronger ties with Persia, East Asian nations (China), and South East Asian nations such as Indonesia, Cambodia, Burma, etc. India even wrote stories about Indonesia, and influenced the nations heavily. Strong trading ties to Burma and Vietnam strengthened the spread of Buddhism in these areas. Sadly, this era would end with the strong presence of the Huns from Central Asia. He would often look after and babysit various Asian nations, finding them all very endearing.

Many Arab traders also came to India, and with that, the religion of Islam spread to India and to some of his siblings in the 7th century. Arab traders often used India in order to reach and trade with the region South East Asia. While not the most popular religion in India in modern times, it still had very important cultural, historical, and religious influence on him and would lead to the rise of the Deccan sultanates and much later the the Mughal Empire. This time period eventually turned into what is known as Medieval India. Agriculture was an important part of India's economy at the time. The Spice and Tea trade were picking up once again, and a steady trade with China was the backbone of his trading income. Later the Ottoman Empire began trading with India, keeping that connection of Northern African-Indian trade alive and thriving.

Many centuries passed without India being influenced by direct contact of European influence, but this was about to change in 1498. Previously the Ottoman Empire controlled most trade routes and connections. Vasco da Gama discovered a sea route that let Europeans travel to India. Portugal was the first nation active in setting up trade posts. India first met Portugal in Calicut, curious yet cautious at their arrival. Portugal conquered Goa in 1502, and with that India was heavily exposed to Portuguese culture and the Catholic religion. Portugal conquered more parts of India, which lead the the English presence in India via the Portuguese giving the region of Bombay to the English. The Portuguese would also begin to conquer his sibling, Ceylon (Sri Lanka), but in the end the Dutch took control of his sibling. The Netherlands also wanted in on the spice trade, and the Dutch set up trading cities in order to keep a tight grip on the trade to the East Indies (Indonesia). France also came to India, establishing their own trading ports, bust mostly stayed in South East Asia. Even Denmark and Sweden came to India, setting up trading posts. Sadly, for Spain, Spain was kicked out of India rather quickly. The Maratha Empire emerged as India's strongest driving force, and it helped Hinduism become the dominate religion in India once again. The Sikh Empire later emerged around the 19th century, and with that the influence and power of the Mughal Empire finally collapsed, strained from fighting the English already.

India had heard about the British East India Company in the early 17th century, and so England was invited and granted permission to trade with India. This started their very long and complicated relationship. At the time, India had no idea what was in store for both of them. England began buying from other European nations ports and cities in India. England seemed to have conquered a large chunk of India, limiting the influence of many other nations in India. England conquered more and more parts of India at a very rapid pace. India tried to resist, but eventually it was too much for the other nation. India became a colony of the British Empire formally by 1858. England used many of India's natural resources to his advantage, and England became a world power mostly in part of India being under his control. India's siblings also were under British control, but India was the eldest, and thus had the strongest relationship with England. India also became England's favorite colony, eventually giving him the title of Crown Jewel of the British Empire. England influenced him immensely, forever changing him.

The concept of independence was something India did long for. The British Empire took a heavy toll with the aftermath of WWI, thus giving India more power over himself. Eventually Gandhi came back to India and convinced him it was possible for India to be independent. Gandhi also influenced India that he could forgive England and be eat peace with the past in order to build a stronger future. The relationship of India and England was changed by Gandhi. The stress of WW2 emerging caused India to seek independence even more so, and eventually India firmly demanded independence from England. England finally agreed to grant India Independence by August 15th, 1947. Sadly India's ties with his siblings became strained around this time, and so the Partition India began as a possible solution. Sadly this didn't help things, and relations became even more strained between the siblings. India still has tough relations with Pakistan. Gandhi's death in 1948 also heavily impacted him heavily, and was one of the darkest days in his history.

Following such hard times for him to say the least, as a newly independent nation India had a lot of work to do. Hindi films became very popular around this time, and historical the golden age of Hindi films started around this time. Films in India were a way to escape from the tough, long says into a world of music, romance, and fantasy. Many of the historic Indian epics, such as the Ramayana, influenced many themes and plot lines in movies. Bollywood eventually became the headquarters of the Indian film industry, much of India's culture influence has been exported through film, music, and food. During this time India also sought to gain new allies and form its place in the modern world. Ties with Russia and China formed once again, and many other newly independent nations sought to have relations with India. After becoming a republic, India decided to join the Commonwealth of Nations As of recently India has gained a massive economic growth, but India still thinks he has a lot of work to do. India is once again on friendly terms with England, and as of recently English-Indian relations are seen as the "New Special Relationship". India has made himself known as someone who has great passion and a competitive edge. England is known for getting movie and snacks from India. As of recently, he has been shown attending America's Halloween party with Prussia, bringing along many dancers and performers with him. He also communicates on twitter, inviting Prussia to come join him. India is also shown to compete with China over friendship with Russia.

Background (AU!Canon; HP):

pooting
Salman Kumar was born to a pure blood wizard father and a muggle mother in New Delhi, India. He is the eldest out of six children, and also seen as the child prodigy among them. His mother was a Bollywood actress, but retired when he was a toddler to become a full time mother. On the other hand, his father worked to secure muggle-magic leader relations. Salman also believes his grandfather, on his father's side, worked with Gandhi back in the day to help Indian wizard and witches. His father went into hiding in India when Voldemort came into power (for the first time), fearing for his life due to his relationships with muggles. His father pretended to be a part of a film crew in India, and that is where he met Salman's mother. His father did not reveal he was a wizard until Salman started displaying magical abilities. While it did put a strain on the family, Salman's muggle mother has learned to adapt to the magic world. Most of his mother's side of the family do not know about the magic world.

When Salman was eight, his father decided to move the family back to England, where Salman's father grew up. Salman already spoke English fluently, but the culture shock of moving to England was nothing he was prepared for. Even the wizarding world in India was very different from the one in England. In order to cope with moving to England, Salman developed an intense passion for Bollywood movies and music (which was fostered even more so by his mother.) and has a weakness for muggle Indian culture. While his father isn't happy about his fondness for such things, and can't seem to understand it, his mother supports it and wishes for him to one day be a Bollywood star like her. His father wants him to be the Minister of Magic, a rather contrasting goal when compared to his mother's wishes.

Since Salman has so many siblings, he has helped his mother take care of them and raise them. His father is often away on business, and so he became the "man of the house" so to speak. Every summer break Salman visits India with his siblings, mother, and sometimes his father. He has also lived in many places within the United Kingdom due to his father's job. Even though Salman moved a lot, he still tried to make many friends, and he makes sure to always leave a good impression on someone. When Voldermort tried to once again take over, Salman's father had to go into hiding, and Salman was almost pulled out of school. Luckily Harry Potter defeated Voldermort, and Salman and his family are safe and out of hiding.

Salman has been an excellent student at Hogwarts. As mentioned before, he is particularly good in Arithmancy and knows quite a bit about the muggle world. He does well in all his subjects, and is seen studying a lot and or tutoring others. He has been even been bribed to help others in their school work. It's up for debate if Salman is naturally gifted in magic or if his father pushes him to do this well in school. Salman is friendly with a lot of people, but he only has a few close friend who are dear to him. Currently he's trying to find a spell that can recreate muggle movies. dragon

How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: Salman does have an affinity for flirting with danger, especially when it comes to animals, but alas he is more of a rational thinker. He can be a good leader, though. He is courageous to some extent, but he wouldn't be selfless unless it was utmost dire situation involving his family members and very close friends. While not the best fit, it isn't the worst.

Hufflepuff: He is loyal and hardworking, but he is very competitive so it wouldn't fit him well. He is friendly, though, and friendship is something important to him. At the same time he thinks friendship is an asset to be used, so he probably isn't a good fit.

Ravenclaw: Salman is highly intellectual and does enjoy learning. He is competitive when it comes to academics, too. He does have some academic hobbies as well. He also can been seen as wise in some cases, a mentor like figure. He's great with magic and logic, so Ravenclaw wouldn't be a bad choice for him.

Slytherin: Salman fits the best in Slytherin. He is proud of his background - muggle and magic - and is very ambitious. He's highly competitive in all sorts of things (sports, academics, money, etc.) and doesn't mind being a little underhanded to get what he wants. He wants to be good at things, leave good impressions, and be at the top. He also doesn't mind using a friendship to benefit him, especially if the friendship is mutually beneficial. He wants to honor his family and please his parents as well. He's also not the most open to outside ideas. He cares how others see him, and he wants people to remember him. He often can be tricky and sneaky to make things work for him.

RP Samples:

1) first sample!
* I'd like to note I know electronics do not work. By interactive he means others performing scenes from movies. He's merely using the hook of a movie to get people to dance and sing with him.
2) If I told you all I brought an elephant back with me to Hogwarts? [trolling the first years, maybe, but it's all in good fun.] What about a tiger? I have many pets back home, so I thought I would bring some with me.

Also, Arthur and Victoria, I have something for the both of you! [guess who bought them traditional Indian clothing.]

For those struggling in their subjects, I am once again opening up my tutoring services.

India is first mentioned in Hetalia in the Anglo-Japanese strips where England was thinking of people to make friends with due to France and Russia being in an alliance. He mentioned India, but realized that wasn't the best idea at the time. England tried making friends with several nations, even being turned down byGermany, but eventually allied with Japan, ending his "splendid isolation" period. India was still a colony of England during this time period historically, so that was probably a reason why India wasn't picked. India is also mentioned again in a conversation between America and England. England offers America some of his food, but America quickly says how disgusting England's food is. England gets rather unhappy about that comment, and he states he got the snacks from India.

India's first appearance in the series occurred during the 2011 Halloween Event. A month before America's party started, Prussia was complaining on twitter about Germany not letting him on the computer and not being able to go to the party. India sees this, taking up the opportunity to add an extra person into his Halloween group. Prussia is taken aback by this offer, getting rather excited over the prospect of joining a group for the Halloween Party and its contest. India agrees to his terms of joining, but that Prussia and any of his friends (fyi there are none!) must learn how to dance and practice. After all the practice, India is impressed with Prussia's dancing skills and hoped they would dance again.

When India finally makes his way to America's Halloween Party, the whole room is stunned and in awe. India has brought along many dancers, musicians, and performers take make a grand entrance. Everyone is very impressed with his introduction, and Prussia goes on to brag about his part in India's performance. When Germany takes down Prussia, India is worried about Prussia, confused at what happened, but Prussia reassures him things are fine.

During the Christmas 2011 Event, India and China are seeking to become friendlier with Russia. India and China both want to be best friends with Russia, thus creating a competition between them. Russia is happy people want to be his friend. Later Belarus mentions that people should revere her brother. In the fifth volume of the Hetalia manga, India once again shown to be enthusiastic about Bollywood movies. The Axis Powers and The Allies are talking about different horror movies from each country. England mentions borrowing a horror movie from India. Everyone is in awe about how India's horror movie involved dancing and music, but still is scary/creepy at the same time. England looks rather freaked out by it, but Japan seems to enjoy the movie greatly. India makes another appearance in a strip showing what clubs would the nations belong to. India is shown with Thailand under the Elephant Club. His Elephant appears to be female, and he looks to be having a good time with Thailand and Thailand's Elephant.

Currently he's trying to find a spell that can recreate muggle movies. dragon
