Brief History in Canon As a child, Christopher's parents, both powerful in both society and magic, were always at each other's throats. He spent little time with his mother and rarely saw his father, being raised instead by servants and a series of governesses that never seemed to stay long, thanks to the atmosphere created by his clashing parents. Christopher's escape came at night, when he would, in his dreams, go to a place he called The Place Between, from which one could go Almost Anywhere. He would explore all sorts of different worlds in his dreams, occasionally bringing back treasures given to him by people he met on his travels. One time he met a girl about his age called the Living Asheth, the avatar of a goddess. It's very boring being a goddess' avatar, so Christopher promises to bring her some books if she'll give him one of the temple cats for an experiment he's doing with his uncle. She agrees, although the cat she gives him is incredibly foul-tempered and Christopher has quite a time bringing it home.

For quite a long time, he did not realize there was anything unusual about his dream travels.

Eventually Christopher's parents split up after his father lost a good amount of his fortune in the stock market. Christopher was sent to boarding school thanks to his mother's brother Ralph (whom Christopher adored). He enjoyed school immensely, especially since he had never gotten to interact with boys his own age. He especially took to cricket, deciding that he wanted to be a professional cricketer when he grew up. Unfortunately, his love of cricket led to a bad accident one day, when his friend managed to crack Christopher's head open with a cricket bat, killing him.

He got better.
