H O L D S

Want to write up an application but don't have the time for that certain character at the moment? No fear! Come on down and put a hold on your character. Don't forget you only have a two week waiting period to keep that character, so please be wary of your time. A moderator will comment with the date that your hold expires. If you have not finished your application by this date, you may comment to extend your hold for one additional week.

You are allowed to place only one character on hold at a time. When you reserve a character, it is assumed that you will be applying for that one. You cannot reserve one character and app another. If your extension expires, you must wait one week before placing a hold again; however, you may still submit your application, providing no one else places a hold in that time.

Characters from new movies, books, series or newly introduced characters cannot be applied for or reserved until two weeks after the release or their introduction.

Holds are not mandatory, please don't put up a hold if you're going to submit your application right after AND PLEASE DON'T SPAM THE HOLDS POST.

Note: Applications and Reservations for teachers are currently open for canon classes

Please specify which class you're putting a hold for if you're apping a teacher.

If you plan on going on hiatus, please leave comment here and the following information; what characters will be going on hiatus, how long do you think your hiatus will be lasting and if the hiatus is over a month, there must be a valid reason as to why. If you do not post your hiatus here then we assume that you are simply ignoring the community, simple as that, this post is for a reason.

If you are putting an individual character on hiatus for muse problems, please understand the limit is 6 weeks. This is ample time to rewatch or reread a series. The maximum time that anyone can be on full hiatus is 2 months. This is to be fair to other players who may want to interact with you. If you're playing a teacher with a split up class (either by house or by year), please let the other teacher/TA mun know so they can ICly cover your classes.

R U L E S:

→ Only TEACHERS, ASSISTANTS, PREFECTS and other STAFF MEMBERS can give or take away house points. Interns and assistants abide by different rules as professors, and prefects have their own field.
→ All house points given or taken away need to be shown by evidence of the action. Meaning, if character A is taking away points from character B, then we need to know why. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT AIM LOGS. This has to be something in a thread or proper log located with a community post or log-community post.
PROFESSORS: There is a limit of thirty points given and twenty five deducted.
ASSISTANTS/INTERNS/STAFF: There is a limit of twenty five points given and fifteen deducted.
PREFECTS: There is a limit of twenty points given and fifteen deducted.
→ Anything more or less than the listed above needs to be run by a moderator before approval and you MUST comment to this entry for the points to take effect!


G U I D E:

→ While you can use your discretion about points to add and remove, try to be reasonable. Before you detract points for an offense, make sure that no one else has detracted points for the same offense.
→ A student talking back should be around -5 points on the first warning. Repeated sassing from that student will lead to more points deducted.
→ Students taking initiative and being generally helpful should be around +5 to 10 points.
→ Sneaking into the restricted section of the library is -10 points and a detention-able offense.
→ Answering a question correctly (outside of the usual circumstances of homework) should be +10 points.
→ A legitimate fight should be -30 points, and if they snuck into a forbidden area to do so, -50.
Club meetings get you points, too! +5 to club officers, and +1 to all that attend.
→ This is a general guideline which is flexible, but should help when deciding how many to add or subtract. If you need help deciding on an appropriate Detention to give, we have some suggestions here.

Quidditch

In [community profile] sortinghat_rp, Quidditch is very similar to its canon quality. You're looking at a full team with a regular season. Matches take place several times a year starting in October; players comment with what their character did during the match, and commentators write up what occurs based on that.

Who wins and who loses is based off a dice roll by two mods, and the house that wins will receive 150 house points (the amount of the snitch). Positions are initially voted upon if two or more players want one spot, otherwise, a simple application guarantees you a spot. After the initial voting, it is first come first serve.

Captains are voted on a few weeks after the initial vote of the team. Positions are reset every year due to new players and to allow others a chance at getting a spot on the team.



Prefects/Head of House

As in canon, [community profile] sortinghat_rp has 5th, 6th, and 7th year Prefects, two of a kind from each house. One male and one female. Their duties are similar to canon and the voting system is the same as Quidditch above. As well as Prefects, there is also one Head Boy and one Head Girl. Head Boy/Girl is like a Prefect but in charge of all of them, thus they don't count as a 7th year Prefect. Every year this is reset due to new players and to allow others a chance at getting a spot.

The Head of House is a mentoring position for their house members, just as in canon, and is assigned only to TEACHERS/PROFESSORS.


If there are positions available, a character can apply for that position. Keep in mind that prefect positions are open for years 5th and up for Prefects, and open for years 2nd and up for Quidditch. When Quidditch Captain or Announcer Positions are open, they can be posted here.

A P P L I C A T I O N

Attention! This is the old application page. The current application page is located here! Please submit your completed applications there.


Ready to apply? Well, you are in the right place! Hop on down and copy-paste the application, but first we would like it if you went over a few things before you find yourself diving into game. We would really appreciate it if you went over the rules, as well as the taken character list to make sure the character you are applying for has not been taken already. You also might want to check out holds just to make sure. You can't be too careful you know.

Please make sure that you read over the FAQ and the HP canon guide to clear anything up, and if you feel like something has not been mentioned, post a comment and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If having difficulty with your application, we recommend you give the Application Guide a look over as well.




T H I N G S T O T A K E N O T E O F;

1. The mods have the jurisdiction to approve or deny any application submitted.

2. Post your application with your personal livejournal!

3. Your application will need to include two specific words; these words can be found hidden in the rules and information pages linked in the community profile.

4. You may only apply for ONE character at a time. Once that character is approved than you may choose another. A player is not allowed more than one un-responded to application on the application forum. For all new players to the RP, we ask you wait one week before applying as a new character, this will give you time to settle in to the community.

5. KEEP IN MIND. This is Hogwarts, and it's a British school. There shouldn't be a huge flood of "DESU DESU DESU" at any point in time. Thus, your characters should be British, or at the very least European. If they aren't, you MUST have a GOOD reason for it! The UK is very diverse and has many nationalities, so if you want them to be a different ethnicity, they can still be British! Here are some locations where characters reside.

6. When applying for a Hetalia Character, we request that you phrase the Canon history in the context of the comic, as opposed to the actual history of the country. This is so we can see how the history translates in to the anthropomorphic character.

7. PLEASE KEEP OOC CONVERSATION OUT OF THE APP POST! At least keep it to a minimum if you are going to say something such as 'huzzah for [fill in character name here]', get their AIM and tell them in person. I am sure they would rather hear it that way.

8. If applying for a:
Student: The most important thing to remember for students is that they are students who go to school. Be prepared to observe all student rules, meaning there are IC consequences for fighting, sneaking out after curfew, and pranks. That doesn't mean not to have fun, just know your character can get in trouble for it! There are also classes with homework, but signing up and doing school work is optional. More info on student rules are here and these spots will always be open.

Teacher/TA: Keep in mind what characters are suitable to teach, and pick a subject that makes sense for them (and for Hogwarts if it's a non-canon class). There is a maximum of two teachers and two TAs on any given subject and occupied teacher and TA spots can be seen here. Teacher characters have to do one homework post a month, while TAs are required to do one post every two months, both of which can be posted here. Teachers are encouraged to give out detentions, house points, and overall, remember that they're teachers. More info on teacher rules are here. Currently: [open]

Staff Member: Similar to professors, minus the assignments, they have a degree of authority as well, but not as much as teachers. They focus on working in the hospital wing, library, grounds, etc. Just like professors, they shouldn't entirely neglect their jobs for social interaction and will use the same application form as teachers. 9. If your application is:
Accepted: Congratulations! Follow the instructions, add yourself to all the lists, and welcome to Sorting Hat!

Wavered: We think your application could use a few improvements to be up to the quality of our roleplay. You have a week to adjust these issues before the character is up for grabs again. If you reapply and we still don't find it up to par, you will be rejected.

Rejected: There are significant problems with the application, so you must wait one week before reapplying or reserving that character (unless you already have a hold on that character, but you can't renew it if the hold expires). However, if you want to apply a different character, you can do so whenever.

DROPPING

Leaving us? Well, that's just a shame. If you would though, make our jobs a bit better and have a gander at this. If you have dropped your character/need to drop your character/notice that your character is still on the taken character list or character chart then please report so here. Keeping things easier to follow and clean for mods to make sure the proper people are removed from everything that matters. When dropping a character, keep in mind that you cannot pick up or reserve that character or any other for a week.


PLEASE TAG HERE IF YOU ARE GOING TO DROP YOUR CHARACTER. Thank you and your mods will thank you and people trying to join who might want your character will thank you. Please make sure as well to do the following:

1. COMMENT ON THE TAKEN CHARACTERS LIST TO REMOVE YOUR CHARACTER.
2. COMMENT ON THE CHARACTER CHART TO REMOVE YOUR CHARACTER.
3. IF YOUR CHARACTER IS OCCUPYING A QUIDDITCH, PREFECT, OR HEAD OF HOUSE SPOT LEAVE A COMMENT FOR THEM TO BE REMOVED.
4. IF ALL OF YOUR CHARACTERS ARE BEING DROPPED, COMMENT TO THE EMAIL CONTACT TO BE REMOVED.
